So I was going to come back and Do More Dreamwidth/LJ and that didn't really happen. I did today read back as far as LJ and then DW will let me. I've written and posted more fic for the 100 fandoms challenge.

I have over the last couple of months tried to tackle my AO3 stuff. To sort and backup my bookmarks and Marked For Later lists. The backup took longer than expected (found a script that downloads info but only 1 page at a time, then had to merge each of those spreadsheets into One Spreadsheet To Rule Them All). Around 900 bookmarks including private ones!
Then I've tried to weed out my Marked For Later list, removing some fics I'll probably never read now for various reasons, downloading some to read on my ereader because they are too long for me to enjoy sitting at the pc, and reading others to then comment/kudos/bookmark/mark as read. I had about a billion or it seems and I've still got between 160 and 170 left to go. The problem being some of these are long, 10k or 50k or longer than a published novel or a whole series of published novels, which is why they ended up on the 'later' list in the first place. And then there's the struggle not to add (too many) more fics to that list, as I've read more fic again recently.

I'm mostly content with where I'm at with dabbling in fandom. There might be exchanges/challenges I want to go back to but I'm not pushing myself. I'm not so happy my original fic blogs are languishing but I do have original fic content I've worked on the last 2 years (1 incomplete in script format, 1 incomplete but I did win NaNo with it novel). I don't want to restart the fic blogging if I can't keep it up regularly.

I'm not who I was a few years back and the things I read, write, think, believe, do, continue to change and to surprise me. I think about trying to explain them here and I'm not sure I can or want to. There are parts of me that are immutable however. It's complicated and that's okay.

I stayed off tumblr last week, spent time on twitter and tweeted about the log off protest. I went back today and queued a few things at the main and the writeblr. I've not been on DW that much either, caught up with circle once early on in the week.

I'll be away next week so I scheduled #writingwednesday for next week at the writing blogs.
The logistics of the being away are giving me anxiety though it should be fun eventually. IDK.

I found an outline/notes for a fic and managed to write it a couple of weeks back, edited and posted. I only posted because I'll miss Valentine's Day otherwise. Definitely not my best work. I can confirm that 1) if I had not made the notes I would not have been able to write the fic almost an entire year later but also 2) it never feels like good work when I write from an extensive outline. Writer problems.

I've written little. I wrote over 700 words to add to a WiP fic and decided I hate them all so...
I've been here before, the utter anxiety that overwhelms when I try to write anything or think about posting. I just have to ride it out.

(I did manage to write an accompanying haiku to the existing one I found for next Wednesday so even 13 words is something?)

I haven't even checked email for over a week aside from web work email. I'll try and check out therealljidol in case there's voting soon, I'm utterly confused about the schedule.

So I'm a hot mess right now, but maybe when I get back in a week's time things will be better.

Have a great weekend and next week everyone!

There's a call for prompts here on the subject of free will at the [community profile] crowdfunding creative jam.

There's a WiP Big Bang promotion for [community profile] wipbigbang; "Do you have WIPs that are too short for WIP Big Bang? Do you need a push to finish them? This challenge is all about getting short WIPs finished." Open until February 15th when the works will be revealed for International Fanworks day.

I've posted some icons to [community profile] fandom10in30, the current theme is stock icons if you'd like to join in.

I've finished going through the 'mine' tag at Tumblr so I should have almost everything I posted there. I've sorted some of what was posted here and what was only posted to Tumblr, but I've got a huge Word document to go through. I'm having to keep telling myself "you don't have to do it all at once" to stop from getting overwhelmed. I got my tumblr late 2010 but didn't use it much, at least for promoting my own work until about 2014, or at least that's when I started tagging 'mine' on things. That's 4 years of stuff!

I'll start posting more of the things here - some of the reviews and stuff might go elsewhere and get a link here, eg [community profile] historyisalie or my wordpress.

Eventually I shall run out of ways to procrastinate and do some writing ;)

I want to sign up to [community profile] 100prompts but I have 2 reservations. The first is you're supposed to post there monthly and the second is I still haven't finished my [livejournal.com profile] 100_tales table which I've been working on for literal years and should finish first.
I still have the prompts: Hail, Sky, Wind, Spring, Watching, and one Writer's Choice. Fanfic or original, minimum 100 words are the rules. If I finish that, maybe I'll think about signing up for the new comm!

Things have been rough. I'm behind on reading. I'm struggling to keep my commitments to 3 fics per month at the professional blogs.
Last week I posted https://lmdee.wordpress.com/2018/06/13/fic-and-blog-update/ which linked to some earlier pieces of fiction and poetry and talked about my new website. The full text and links are reposted below. This week I posted, with some minor edits, an older piece of fiction.

Please do give the website a look and let me know your thoughts.

Today is Writing Wednesday, week 2 of the month, but Writer's Block and personal issues have struck. So instead of something new, I'm revisiting some past posts that you might not have seen (or remember!)

I also want to mention that I have a new website including a Works In Progress (WiP) page, and my Tumblr now has an index/navigation page with a list of tags. I have updated my Wordpress Welcome page too.

This was supposed to be a catching up with personal posts month but it's been a hell of a month and now most of it is done with to rehash it afresh feels indulgent and unnecessary. So for now let's just skip over it.

On the bright side I've been working on my NaNo2015 project more despite all the real life stress.

Just once a month I make a detailed personal post, and inspired by the Fluent Self blog, I call it a BAG post, where I've Been, am At, am Going. Posts may include good stuff/work/health/family/pets/creativity/general whining and I finish off by including some gifs for people to enjoy.

I've finally responded to all the comments on my previous personal (BAG) post, I think. Apoloiges for the delay, and posting my next update before replying to the comments on the previous one. After my much needed rant I took a very short break and I seem to have been playing catch-up ever since - see also ISP issues, below.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my post, which received a decent amount of attention at Tumblr too. I've polished it up and posted it to my professional blog and promo'd at my professional Tumblr: The Myth of the Relationship Hierarchy Strikes Again wordpress tumblr
I'll reblog the original post with links to the professional post when my ISP lets me properly access resource hungry sites like Tumblr/Feedly/Facebook/Photobucket. I'm having serious issues with Virgin Media and from what I've read, I'm not the only one.

I posted a brief note/mini meta about Leverage's Parker here

I've got three trope bingo fills to post and then I can claim bingo, fingers crossed.

It snowed briefly today, didn't settle, but highly unusual for this time of year in the West Midlands. We're almost at Mayday, Beltaine, where is our late spring weather?

NaNo - Day 7 - quick update

Unless I manage a few more words tonight my current total is 11,498, just shy of the recommended day 7 total (11,669). I expected to 'hit the wall' at about day 12 but I'm already starting to worry that I'm running out of planned scenes to write - even though I haven't actually written all the scenes I have notes for. And some scenes I have planned are "x happens but idek any details" - eg is the peril a flood or a landslide, and how does that fit in with the rest of the plot and character skills, and don't I need to foreshadow that it's a possibility beforehand...
I'm worried about the timeline and how all these disparate scenes can ever be made into a coherent narrative. I have/had plans to use the Tarot Major Arcana (which rather mirrors the Hero's Journey) to decide chapters and flow, but the event I want to use for The Devil might need to occur earlier in the novel; and there's a seasonal aspect to the timeline too, which affects where that event takes place. It's a mess. I suppose as it is a fantasy I can adjust seasons and weather to my liking but I don't want to make more work/more confusion for myself by extending summer just so the solstice occurs when I want it to!

Ugh, this sucks:
None of the scenes are coming out exactly as I want. Writing, How Does It Work. I know I'm capable of elegant prose but I'm not seeing any evidence of it here.
I know there are a billion spelling errors caused by clumsy typing in my haste. Okay, those are fixable and I'll make more errors on editing so it makes sense not to waste time and energy on that.
I'm relying, as usual, on dialogue. I know I underwrite rather than overwrite; I always have to go back and put in more detail, more descriptions of places and actions, more sensory detail. Still, I'm worried that I'm writing a lot of random dialogue rather than well drawn scenes.

But:
I've written over 11k in a week. I can't recall the last time I wrote that many words in so few days let alone on one single project.
I always feel like this, I think. Because I hate planning every detail I always end up fighting with the timeline. Because I am not a linear writer I am always having to figure out how to join up the start, end, and those random things in the middle. It's just a much bigger job with a novel than a fic.
Also Juliet started as a handwritten novella that was very badly typed up and then rewritten, and edited, and edited, and its in beta now. So I know I can polish something up. (On the other hand Juliet is years old now and I worry about ever publishing it, and what does that mean for this novel?)

So I'm somewhat swings and roundabouts with it right now. I'm accomplishing something. I'm not just sure what, yet.
meridian_rose: pen on letter background with text saying 'writer' (writer)
I'm waiting for my dark bingo card and I'm working hard on my novella – more on that soon, hopefully.

I'm waiting on Yuletide sign ups – the rules are slightly different this year in terms of how many fandom must be offered and requested so I'm going to wait and see the final taglist before I make a decision as to whether I'm signing up this year.

Other bingo:
kink bingo, claim line by end of month, done 2 fills, working on three more.
trope bingo; claimed one line and got a second card, may try for a bingo by end of month or post any fills during amnesty
bloody bingo; one bingo claimed, open until end of November if I want to do more
h/c bingo, due January next year, three fills done, need two more to claim
orig fic bingo, no time limit, one fill done

Working on the Current Project Writing Memes

I've got a few more fics planned for my fantasy AU "Everything's Better with Dragons" – I try to match them with bingo fills!

I really want, once I'm more up to date with some of these bingo cards and other challenges, to write some original fics about sex/sexuality because I'm frustrated with the "sex is what makes a relationship" bollocks that keeps rearing its ugly head all over the damn place. That's not how it works in my opinion, and thus not how it works in my worlds, and I think some fics exploring why and how things do work for different characters wouldn't go amiss.

Also I'm becoming aware of how much I'm posting, original ficwise. I might have to watch the wordcount in future, or lock more pieces so they're not public. But something I also would like to try is AU fics in my own verses – I already did the genderswap prompt, for example. Fanfic allows you to explore things you wouldn't necessarily want to see in canon (eg character death) or can't easily manage in canon (fantasy or high school au, except where a character is dreaming or something) but you want to try out anyway. I see no reason it can't work the same for original fic. Except mostly dark AU scenarios because that's how I roll.

I've got things to be doing but I'm having problems getting motivated. On the other hand I've walked about four miles or so today so that's something. I mentioned to my sister that I'm having problems writing.
"Yes, it's January, you say this every time," she told me.
"I've got ideas," I said. "I just can't seem to get motivated to actually write them down."
"Yes, you say this every January!" She also told me I should make a pop-up for the PC that each January says "It's January. You'll probably have ideas but not be good at writing them down!" to remind me of this fact.
Which is awesome she pays attention to know these things, and that I apparently go through this every year, so it's cyclical and will soon pass :)

As you might know, long ago, I started the 100-tales table. As usual, I haven't completed this project. So below the cut are the word prompts that I have neither written for, nor have even made notes for. (I've excluded the 'writer's choice' prompts too.) You all come up with such great ideas whenever I ask for help brainstorming so let's see what you've got this time around :D

So it's the end of the month – congrats to NaNo winners, and well done for anyone who took part.

My goal was 5k of a novel I'm working on. How'd I do?
