John Silver, the fraudulent Earl of Poole, awakes to find a beauty berating him - but he cannot recall the last three months of his life, nor having a wife. Max is clearly a most unsuitable consort, but then he's known as being an unconventional earl. Suspicious of Max's presence in his life, Silver struggles to regain his memories but it seems his heart remembers things his head does not.

"John?" Max's voice was filled with concern. She had her hands on his shoulders and he was leaning into her. "Mon chéri. Talk to me."
He closed his eyes, gathered himself. "I remembered something."
"That is good." She lifted one hand now he had his balance, cupped his cheek, her thumb caressing his chin.
"Is it? I remember you were a whore. That you tried to blackmail me."
She didn't deny it nor did she move away.
"How did we go from there to here? Why do I feel more trust than suspicion about you?"... he couldn't help but look at her and feel that there was more to this arrangement than blackmail. His heart seemed to remember things that his head had forgotten.
Was it possible he'd truly come to care for her? Was it so foolish to wish she had also come to care for him?

The relationship study sounds like a perfect way to some easy money for Zo, if he can find someone to fake monogamy with him for the duration. Zo's stunned when Riario offers to be his partner since his father cut off his funds.

While things are initially awkward Zo discovers Riario isn't as stuck-up as he thought and Riario finds the study prompts him to reconsider his sexuality and his ambitions.

Somehow the uneasy acquaintances become genuine friends…and maybe more…it's supposed to a temporary deceit but the more time they spend together the more they discover how compatible they are.

When Alessandro threatens Francesco's daughters in order to take his place, Riario's desire to protect his cousins leads him to make a desperate bargain. He will wed Lucrezia and raise Amelia as if she were his own child.
Lucrezia's initial hatred of Riario begins to wane as he tries to prove his affection for her, and her companionship and compassion affect him in a positive way. The path to love and redemption however does not run smooth.

Summary: London, present day. Leo and Riario were in a tempestuous but passionate relationship until they recently broke up.
