I'm polyfanamourous: An incredibly long but now rather outdated list of my fandoms is here ; particular past and current favourites include The Borgias, Da Vinci's Demons, Firefly, Legend of the Seeker, Revenge, V (2009), early Black Sails, The Orville, Deception (2018), Blood & Treasure.

All of my fanworks and most of my entries, including some original fic pieces are public. F-locked are more personal posts, and occasional discussions on things such as sexuality, as well as some original fic pieces.

My interests include reading, television and film, fanfiction, mythology and folklore, wine, walking, pets, digital photography, and I dabble in various crafts. I believe my bodily autonomy is paramount. I'm neither left nor right now, instead feeling more libertarian/pro-freedom than authoritarianism.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.” C S Lewis

Challenge #4 IceBreaker Challenge! Tell us about yourself.
To begin, I'm going to borrow [personal profile] tellshannon815's idea of posting the image made for a [community profile] lands_of_magic challenge on the same theme:

Me with my nephews, pub lunch (that particular one is fish with red wine :D), and lots of photos of animals some past and current pets and animals I like. A pile of books because I used to read a lot and still dabble in books, ebooks, and read fanfic, and a sunflower because it is one of my fave flowers.
That challenge was to describe yourself in on-fannish terms but I'll add to that here. I'm multifannish and mostly involved in TV fandoms but sometimes I surprise myself by getting into a movie fandom and when that happens it hits pretty hard. I read, write, make icons and sometimes famixes and less often currently fanvids. Writer is a key part of who I feel I am.

Challenge #1 Update your fandom information. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space.

I actually updated some of my profile info in 2023. I'd been away for a while and then came back gradually and suddenly my pinned posts were in my feed not future-dated and somewhat out of date in general. So DW and LJ and more recently FF.net (I'm rarely posting there but do sometimes post for older fandoms).
I updated some of my interests but they probably need more work. My tags, recent posts, and what I post to AO3 are probably more indicative of current trends.

I have just updated my AO3 profile to tidy it up a little.

My profiles at LJ, DW, AO3, all include a statement on transformative work.

Challenge #2 In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I...am still here, in the world. I am changed, however. I feel every part of my life including my belief system and things I trusted has been turned upside down. I'm not ready to talk about that in more detail but I will say that I can no longer be truly on the Left - this tweet resonates with me - though I cannot be truly 'far Right' either. More Libertarian perhaps. Politically homeless. I don't want to write, right now, about any of these things but maybe one day.
I have participated, barely in Yuletide 2020, and spent months unable to write a word beyond journal entries of anger and pain. I did finally write a fanfic, and then a bit more and completed Yuletide 2021. A few more fanfics, enough to post some towards 100_fandoms. And recently Yuletide 2022, which I might write more about at some point. I've read some fanfic, but my fandom interaction has declined. I'm more on the sidelines right now.
I did the GYWO habit days after skipping 2021, and found it a welcome change from wordcount (though I was able to track both).
I also haven't posted any original fic since mid 2020. I did somehow manage to complete NaNoWriMo this year, though the 'novel' is unfinished and to my mind a mess that would/will take massive amounts of editing.
Meanwhile I might participate in some of the Snowflake Challenges due to start 1st January. I miss parts of fandom and community, but it has become a double edged sword the last 5 years.
So I'm not back, fully, and unfortunately, probably never will be. I have no idea how many of you are still here, still blogging. But I'm around, and writing sometimes, and posting at AO3 on occasion, and trying out other crafts, and loving spending time with my family including my nephews, and my sister's pets, and smiling at strangers - especially dog walkers who are on the whole the most friendly people you meet out walking and who are likely to greet you.
Best wishes for 2023.

I am a writer and I am not sorry for that.
I write what I want to write.
I write what brings me joy.
I write what lets me express and explore my pain.
I write the things I want to read.
I write, inspired by others.
I write to challenge myself.
I write for others on occasion.
I write for myself.
I write also what I need to write.
I am a writer and I am not sorry.

My writing statement, September 2018.

What and why do you write? Scott Russell Saunders, author of The Most Human of Arts, gives a list of reasons we need stories. These include teaching us to be human, to educate our desires, to show us consequences, to teach us empathy by looking through the eyes of other people, to delight in language, and to create community.

Are you apologetic about your writing? Do you feel uncomfortable using that label? If not, did you ever? Has anyone made you feel uncomfortable about what you write by criticising you for writing “dark” or “problematic” fiction? How do you get past negative reviews or rejections?

Think about your writing and maybe write your own statement that says “I am a writer…” and see what comes up for you, what is most important or relevant to you right now. Are there are any surprises? Or are you secure in your approach to writing?

I’d love to see what you come up with.

Day 11

In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself.

1. My creativity. I always say it the best part of me and I don't know how to exist without it.

2. I read, and I watch, and I analyse, and I have an eye for detail. There's no point creating something if there's never any audience for it. And the more impressed I am with you, the more I get to know you, the more detailed the comments I will give; and I will be honest. Possibly more detailed and honest than you'd like but that's another matter. If you want encouragement *and* concrit tell me and I won't hold back. If I beta read, I do it whole-heartedly.

3.I have eclectic tastes and know random facts about a variety of topics. I don't know everything about everything but I often know something about many things. And I will share my knowledge and link you to articles or recs. I will even do some research for you if the subject takes my fancy. It ties in with creating and reading, the last part of the triad is disseminating and repackaging information, bringing creators and consumers together.

Day 14
In your own space, share your love for something fannish: a trope, cliché, kink, motif, theme, format, or fandom.

Hurt/Comfort is my bread and butter. I could say more but I talk about it often enough that it seems redundant, though clearly I need better tags since I can't find specific posts to link to at this moment.

Transformative Work

You do not need to ask my permission to remix, podfic, translate, create art for or create secondary fanwork of any fanwork I have posted with the following exclusions:
1) do not copy an entire story without any translating or other transformative work and claim it as your own
2) do not post to any site that is monetised - for example reading aloud on a Youtube/TikToK video that you earn money from
Please include a link back to my work on any transformative work you make*, and please share the link to your work with me - I'd love to see it :D

*AO3 makes this very easy. In the "Associations" window when creating a new work start by ticking the "This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work".

I always want my work to be accessible and to improve my skills.

If you find an obvious error in one of my fics, please let me know; html gone haywire, incorrect names, or anything that makes a fic difficult to read are things I would dearly like to know about and correct. Similarly mistakes like bread for beard for example, which can easily slip past the editing process - and make for a rather odd romantic scene - are things I'd love to be notified of so I can fix them.

I'm also open to concrit so long as it's constructive and not simply 'I don't like this' or 'this pairing is not acceptable'. Tell me what you think needs improving and I'll listen; 'the ending seemed a bit rushed' or 'I was a bit confused about how they found out about the dagger' are things I can work on.
