Day 1 – self promotion
Day 12 - What do you bring to fandom?
Day 13 - Rec a creator
Day 14 - Rec fanworks
Day 15 - Create a challenge - what’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom?
Day 1
Some minor self promotion as I highlight two gift fics I wrote for various challenges, link here
Day 12
I hope I bring support. I go through times of just leaving kudos/bookmarking/"liking" things but there are times I commit to leaving comments and indepth reviews. If it's a new author or a small fandom or just a story that makes an impression on me, I'm more likely to review and maybe even ask questions, or talk about some of the thoughts the work provoked.
I also hope I bring my own perspectives to the works I create and that I include some level of diversity in my fannish and original works. I write het and gen, slash, OT3s, sometimes femslash, gay/lesbian characters and bisexual characters. I include subjects that get less attention or are derided – masturbation, asexuality, characters who are staunchly childfree.
While there are things I do just quickly, for a prompt fill, or for the fun of it, that applies to some of my original works too. But on the whole I commit fully to a project and in particular I mean I don't treat something as lesser because it's fanfic. I bring as much commitment to works I'm creating, and as much scrutiny and analysis to works I'm consuming, as to original fiction and mainstream media. I treat fandom and fictional media as important because they are.
Day 13
Rec a creator
On Youtube, MissArega makes the most wonderful crack vids. I'm most familiar with her vids for The Borgias, in particular
but other fandoms are represented including The Tudors, Sherlock, The Hobbit, and Supernatural. Not all vids are crack, there are plenty of shippy vids and other delights :D
Day 14
I've got two recs for fics I received as gifts at various challenges here (Legend of the Seeker, Da Vinci's Demons).
I always have a list of fic to be rec'd when I get around to making a rec post, but in the interim, I'll mention these two:
Social Capital (884 words) by smilebackwards
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Revenge (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Nolan Ross/Emily Thorne
Characters: Nolan Ross, Emily Thorne
Additional Tags: Didn't Know They Were Dating, Tabloids, Weddings, Sharing Clothes
Summary: It isn’t mine,” Emily says when Nolan comes home to find her in his bedroom, covered in blood.
"Ems,” Nolan whines, but no power in the ‘verse can stop her That line alone endeared the fic to me :) I loved this fic! Go read it!
Spirits (2435 words) by Nomad
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Black Books
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Manny Bianco, Bernard Black, Fran Katzenjammer
Summary: The bookshop is troubled by unwholesome spirits.
Perfectly captures the surreal humour of the show.
Day 15
Posting to LJ/DW and creating things rather than merely reblogging Tumblr posts. Taking part in challenges by signal boosting and prompting and commenting even if you can't always create works for the specific challenge. If you have a Dreamwidth journal as a "backup" to LJ, try using it a bit more :D
More asexual fics and/or fics focussing on non-sexual intimacy, more polyamory fics, more gen/character driven fics, more fics in small fandoms, more fic in closed canon sources (especially small fandoms that are no longer producing new material) – and more fannish support for these things. And while I say "fic", vids and art and meta and so forth are also always welcome.
Try something new: a fandom or pairing or kink or trope you haven't created for, or a medium you're less familiar with. You might surprise yourself :D
