Title: Entwined
Fandom: Original
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 196
Prompt: For the poetryprompts challenge Using your poetry, pick a number of random poems, now pick a random line from each poem (using a random number generator). These lines form the basis for your poem, you have to make a poem that makes sense out of these lines.
Summary: A poem, somewhat related to The Guest
Content Notes: No standard warnings apply.
They call me witch
But she who cannot harm cannot heal
And my knowledge of poison is necessary
Some would refuse my help
Even when they are old or sick
I pay them no mind
He was never afraid of me
One word from me can bring a smile to his lips
And make me smile in turn
The last time he came to me, we fought
There is always a price for my favours
And he would not pay
The sun returns after rain
And so he returns now to my door
Begging for my help
Not willing to apologise
But willing to pay, at least
I could not refuse
The rhythm of a heartbeat
Beneath my fingers
Excites me
I can save this life
If someone will give me blood
And so he does
He loves this one, then
I am only mildly jealous
We are close, loving, but not lovers
We sip wine and wait for the dawn
"I thought you'd left me behind for good," I lie
"Never," he says, fervently
It's a relief he's committed to me
For we are interlinked, entwined
Whether he knows it, or wants it, or not
"A price there is, for favours asked of me", is from the poem "The Guest" and I imagine this to be from the same character's perspective. We learn that she actually knows the visitor, discover more about what he wants, and the narrator's feelings about him.
Lines used:
A price there is, for favours asked of me
Irrelevant, left behind
Interlinked
The sun always comes out again
And he wasn't going to apologise
Rhythm
Even when they were old
As long as some are willing to bleed
One word from me makes him smile
But isn't sexual in nature
Who cannot harm cannot heal and her knowledge of poison

Date: 2013-08-06 02:25 pm (UTC)I went back and re-read "The Guest" after reading this. As good as that poem was, this was even better. I know I used the term 'lyrical' in describing your poem "Tidal" - I would also use it here.
The hint of complexity of the relationship the speaker has with this man is so intriguing. He pays the price in blood to save the woman he loves, yet still is bound to this 'dark' woman. Like so many of your fics and poems, this leaves me wanting to know more about this woman and her life - or unlife.
For we are interlinked, entwined
Whether he knows it, or wants it, or not This is just chilling and so perfect.
(Comment first typed last night, but internet died at the moment I clicked on Post. Cat had just chewed through modem power cord. Grrrrr)

Date: 2013-08-10 11:06 am (UTC)Oops! Bad kitty! Ratties love wires and have chewed several over the years so I know the feeling. Hope it's fixed now. Sorry for not replying to these earlier. It's been a bad week one way and the other and I've been less active online.

I'm sure you can source similar/better products in the US :)
For cats and dogs you can get anti chew sprays which taste bitter and so discourage chewing:

Susan had one to stop the puppy chewing the dining furniture but I can't say it was a huge success - but then Mara is/was very stubborn, as Malamutes tend to be!
Thank you *hugs*
