Title: The Guest
Fandom: Original
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 118
Prompt: For the
writerverse Sonnet challenge
Summary: A sonnet in which one who may be a witch addresses a visitor to her domain
Warnings: None
I found this harder even than to write than the sestina; I have problems figuring out an iamb vs a trochee, so I hope it's right.
The Guest
Who dares the silence of the night disturb?
Who dares to knock my door, at this late hour?
Who dares my blissful slumber to perturb?
Who dares approach this proclaimed witch's tower?
A price there is, for favours asked of me
And coin might not be what I do demand
If stay you will, prepare to pay the fee
I will not ask for what you can't command
Yet none complain who pay to me my due
My name sits honeyed 'pon the tongue of they
Who think before they ask what I shall do;
A miser or a fool ought walk away
So which is it to be, my midnight guest?
Are you fearful, or merely unimpressed?

And coin might not be what I do demand
And then as the poem continues, the sense of dread is lightened up through the last line -
Are you fearful, or merely unimpressed?
Great job!
