Hope everyone is enjoying "Twixmas" that time between the frantic lead up to Christmas and the New Year's return to work/school. I've done some in store and online sale shopping/browsing and some tidying/sorting. Taken down some decorations so it's all at once. Leaving the lights until last.
In lieu of writing posts I just seem to be dumping All the Thoughts about things like Beyond Paradise Christmas special and Lord of the Rings nostalgia in other people's posts. My own posts are sporadic but I do try and read my circle on a semi regular basis, and I'm committed to
seasons_of_fandom which keeps me active in making icons, writing drabbles, playing games, and commenting on other user's works.
I received a truly lovely Yuletide gift fic in the Rivals fandom ♥ Look, I'm Emotionally Bankrupt First Bas had the brilliant idea of dressing them all up like the four musketeers for a fancy dress fundraiser; now he won't stop interfering in whatever's between Rupert and Taggie.
If this keeps up, Rupert swears someone's going to get run through with a dull sword.
My recipient seemed to enjoy the fic I gifted them. though another fic given as a treat (so same parameters) got more comments. Even when I write the explicit fic it's not quite good enough sigh
Upcoming is the Snowflake Challenge. Let's see how many/how late I do the challenges! Click the banner below to visit the comm.

That looks like a lovely gift, I'm going to bookmark it too.

Date: 2026-01-03 09:43 am (UTC)I love that gift fic so much. I've had reservations about Yuletide but don't want to give it up, and that restored the feeling of why I do it. Even if I'm never quite good enough in writing!
I'll copy my ramblings I left on Shadowhive's post about Beyond Paradise :)
Enjoyed the Beyond Paradise special - as you say the main crime was a bit thin/easily resolved, but I'm just so happy Humphrey finally married Martha. It's irked me since the start of the show that they've put more effort into IVF (all that money, physical trauma, emotional trauma) than their relationship, never thought to get married. When I went back and started watching Death in Paradise from Kris's first episode as I'd never watched any, I was surprised how it ended for them - the whole *Humphrey's obsessed with having kids* never came up. Though I guess his first marriage ending the way it did made him more wary of a second wife.
And then he and Martha nearly got married only for it to get cancelled which I understood (it wasn't *theirs*, their ceremony) but it was still disappointing. And finally they did and Selwyn showed up :)
I was aching for the marriage since end of season one, for Humphrey to prove to Martha that she was *enough* by marrying her. Almost wrote fix it fic but never did.
Also hoping Jamie Bamber's character gets another chance at love next season! (And despite this I'm very much team Kelby, and think he needs more screentime ;) )

Date: 2026-01-03 05:29 pm (UTC)Yes it was nice to see Humphrey and Martha getting married. I have my reservations about IVF anyway, why not just adopt some of the abandoned children who are already in the world? So when they started fostering children, I think that was a step in the right direction.
You have a good memory! When was Humphrey married before? You'll have to remind me, I've forgotten 🤦♀️
It was great to see Selwyn, wasn't it? I like the way they connected the Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise Christmas Specials by having Selwyn travelling to Britain.
I liked the idea of Archie and Esther getting together but it's so on and off now, I've got a bit bored. Either get together or don't!
I love Kelby too! That actor was in Derry Girls too, he's a talented young man. I think he and Esther's daughter might get together one day.

Date: 2026-01-05 01:24 pm (UTC)I've only recently watched Death in Paradise, between seasons of "Beyond Paradise" we started with Kris Marshall's first episode and are currently on Ardal O'Hanlon's last season. So it's fresher to me. Kris's wife had broken up with him for being...too nice?! like she was bored of him. It seemed weird to me. She'd stayed behind without telling him when he moved to the island. No mention of children wanted or being a reason they broke up. Not a mention of "can't wait to get married and have babies" when he ran off to London when Martha got a job there, the in-canon reason he left St Marie.
But yes, this wedding had Selwyn and having now watched the original series for a while, it was lovely to see him at such a joyous occasion (and swapping stories with his current supervisor!)
Yes, I get bored with the on/off stuff, and I was lukewarm on Archie in season one (though it's the first time I've found Jamie Bamber attractive his Battlestar Galactica role did nothing for me, I was a Gaius girl). I guess I just want him to be happy. I feel the Esther/Archie storyline is designed to give Esther some character development but her keep dumping him because she doesn't feel worthy or whatever is making her less likeable...
Oh yes! Again, between seasons I watched all of Derry Girls, and then recently Big Boys. It's nice to see him maturing but always adorably sweet. Also he spends so much time in Girls saying he's not gay, and then in Boys he's playing a student who's just coming out.

Date: 2026-01-06 10:27 am (UTC)So Humphrey's wife split up with him for being too nice? I must have blanked that out. What a silly woman to dump lovely Humphrey! Perhaps she preferred bastards.
Selwyn is great, I would LOVE to see a prequel about him as a young man, maybe in trouble with the law but something made him turn over a new leaf and become a policeman.
Jamie Bamber is like so many men- he has improved with age! I never liked Battlestar Galactica I'm afraid, too complicated for me.
Yes I'm not sure what is going on with Esther. I suspected they broke up because Jamie Bamber got a new job in a detective series, but who knows...
Loved Derry Girls! The actor (James something?) has really burst onto the scene with lots of good roles lately hasn't he.
