This post is because I asked for prompts for Get Your Words Out Yahtzee challenge. (I've asked for a re-roll as I got a repeat of a picture prompt I used last time). And I completely misunderstood the assignment on one of them.

Oddly I'd just had nice discussion with smallhobbit about making guesses as to what small images actually are showing, and I had similar during the Snowflake Challenge (or maybe a lands-of-magic entry?) in which I described something in a photo as a fountain/bird bath which was actually a memorial feature.

Is it a writer thing, to see something without context and make an (un)educated guess about what it is? To start filling in the blanks? Or am I just not paying enough attention ;)

In the first comment is what google lens insists it is.
I suppose in writing, what we see is what we write.


It's a crooked tower on a hill at sunset. Maybe an oddly angled photo of Glastonbury Tor. Maybe a fantasy image.

Google lens says this a beer bottle held up against the setting sun.
Cropping makes all the difference.

This is far more mundane and easier to write. But also far less weird and creative. Now beers watching the sun set behind the crooked tower...

I immediately knew it was a beer bottle but then I live in a place that's really sunny all year round and inclined to a lot of outdoor entertaining!

Same! We have friends over to drink in the backyard in summer, and this is a familiar sight! :)

I'm English but live in the American South (TM) so summer basically last 9 months and then it gets a bit cooler and darker for a while. ;D

Yes! We can both blame cold English weather for not seeing joyful sunny outdoor celebration! Interesting that 'leaning tower' is something you saw too :)

I knew it was a bottle, but I thought it might be bobbing in the ocean. Maybe with a note inside?
