For this week's Fandom post it's The Safety Dance!
The offical video has, since Games of Thrones, often been referred to as "Jaime Lannister, Cersei and Tyrion in happier times" with a laughing emoji.
It's a fun, upbeat 80s track by Men Without Hats that has found its way into many fanvids. Below the cut are links to fanvids using it for Miranda (BBC - featuring Lucifer's Tom Ellis), Wednesday Addams, a Glee cover version, a metal cover version and a random Hugh Jackman clip.
The classic:
That doesn't seem to work outside the UK but you could try this Vimeo link or these other links youtube alternate; extended versionMiranda (BBC comedy with Miranda Hart)
Wednesday (not such much a fanvid as the famous dance scene with Safety Dance as the soundtrack. It fits really well and there's just one minor moment where a bit of editing would have lined it up better)
Glee
Metal cover by Leo Moracchioli (While this isn't my fave cover of his, Moracchioli is my fave metal cover artist, a talented musician who plays a lot of different instruments and must have to film himself over and over to cut all his vids together showing him playing each instrument and in various costumes. Check out his "Ghostbusters" cover where his daughter joins in!)
Hugh Jackman

Date: 2024-02-22 04:58 pm (UTC)We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cos your friends don't dance
And if they don't dance
Well, they're no friends of mine

Date: 2024-02-22 05:06 pm (UTC)I always thought it was about someone who really likes dancing and being creative and not caring if anyone else stares/disapproves, they're doing they're own thing.
While I was looking for alternative link for those who can't see the first video I came across this from Wikipedia "The writer/lead singer Ivan Doroschuk has explained that "The Safety Dance" is a protest against bouncers prohibiting dancers from pogoing to 1980s new wave music in clubs when disco was declining and new wave was coming in." So I guess we have both learnt something today! :)

Date: 2024-02-22 08:21 pm (UTC)I think I heard the Safety Dance when I was so young that I never really thought hard about the lyrics but you're right.π΅
That is a very specific reason for writing their song but I suppose it is vague enough to mean anything isn't it, that's why it became popular π
It's always good to learnπ
