Title: Duty
Characters: Morgana, Arthur
Rating: G
Challenge: Merlin100 #25:"freedom" & 100_Tales prompt #094 “Duty”
Warnings/Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: Not for profit. I don’t own Merlin, Shine/BBC does.
Summary: Freedom is the opposite of duty
“Sometimes,” Morgana said, watching the children in the town square below, “I wish I were a commoner.”
“Except for the clothes,” Arthur quipped, elbows leaning on the stone window ledge.
At her look of admonishment, he relented.
“I know; you mean being free to do what you wanted without worrying what everyone thought about it. Not having to worry about being a disgrace to the royal family.”
Morgana nodded. “You do understand.”
“We can’t have freedom,” Arthur said, “because we have duty.”
Morgana’s duty would be to marry a noble. Arthur’s to rule. Freedom meant choices that neither could have.
