If you're tired of LJ's shenanigans and are looking for pastures new, or just want to use DW more in addition to LJ but you're not sure where to start, here some links you might find useful:
Brief tutorial on cross posting
Community Promo get notified of newly created communities ; @ create my comm you can suggest a comm that doesn't exist but you'd like to join (or if you're looking to mod, find a suggestion you'd like to implement)
lj-refugees Advice about using DW from current and former LJ users
dw-news ; dw-maintainence ; dw-herald comms which keep you up to date with Dreamwidth developments and issues
style-system help getting your DW journal looking and functioning just the way you want
fandom-on-dw ; fandom calendar find fests, auctions, and other fannish activities to participate in. Many bingo comms now have a mirror or sister site at DW, but these comm can help you find new challenges to participate in.
dw-suggestions suggest improvements, and vote and comment on new proposals. You know, user engagement and consultation :D
fact finding is a comm much like LJ's Little Details; not currently as active as Little Details, but may become more popular as people move to DW.
I have to say my experiences at DW have been very positive. The management team are 'hands on' and engage with the user base and the DW ethos is based around accessibility. The only thing missing is the activity level in terms of comms and their members/posts, but just as AO3 is starting to gain traffic as FF.net tries to drive away users with unwanted changes, DW may start to gain ground as LJ forces unwanted (even physically painful/access restricting) changes on theirs.
You can easily crosspost from DW to LJ, and you can also import all your entries and comments to DW. (There's currently an issue importing comments left on the LJ crossposts back to DW, ETA: DW are on it and it should be fixes shortly: http://dw-maintenance.dreamwidth.org/50920.html Usually I back up comments from LJ to my DW around once a week without a problem)
Remember that you can also import your communities now, too, so if you're looking to mirror or move to DW, you won't lose all your entries and comments there either.
