I'm doing some 'housekeeping' and found some entries I created for various writerverse challenges but haven't posted in my journal before.

For the Six Word challenge:

Dream:
Sun, sand, lapping waves; total contentment.

Nightmare:
She smiled, revealing sharp, deadly, fangs.

Story starters: write a sentence or two that begin a fic

#1 At precisely eight am GMT a single shot rang out.

#2 Later, he'd look back and see that this, this single seemingly inconsequential action, was where it all began.

#3 Sarah pulled her coat tighter around her, trying to keep out the cold. The bitter north wind tugged at her hair but she kept her head down and continued walking. She couldn't go home. Not yet.

Quick fic haiku, fandom: Psych, prompt: bowl of fruit, plus bonus for mystery genre
Something is missing
Stolen. Look at the fruit bowl
There's no pineapple!

Quick fic haiku, original work, prompt: calming influence

The aroma, the
taste and warmth is soothing; tea:
more than just a drink

For the Earworm music challenge use shuffle on your favourite music player and write a story for the length of the song

Title:If You Take A Life
Word Count: 109
Rating:PG-13
Original/Fandom: Original
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): None
Summary: Song prompt "You Know My Name"; an assassin muses on his career.

Being an assassin wasn't easy.

Okay, it wasn't that hard either, not really. There were certain risks and a certain amount of inconveniences but once you'd learned the skills and acquired the equipment you were pretty much set up.

Finding clients wasn't even that difficult.

Finding clients who were genuine and could pay, who weren't undercover cops, who wouldn't turn you in, who could be trusted to keep their goddman mouths shut…that was harder. It was actually a skill in itself.

He hadn't exactly chosen this career, more sort of fallen into it after his military service.

There were worse jobs, he thought, as he lifted his sniper rifle.

Title: Greener Pastures
Word Count: 90 (By the time I'd figured out the story I was almost out of time to write it :P)
Rating: PG-13
Original/Fandom: original
Pairings (if any): hinted m/f couples
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): suggestions of infidelity
Summary: song prompt was "Stuck In The Middle With You"; a woman sees a man at a bar.

She was out with her boyfriend and his friend and so wasn't this the night she laid eyes on him.

He was everything she liked in man physically. She sidled closer and overheard enough of his flirting with other women to decide he matched her well enough intellectually too.

She met his eyes and felt a connection. Her boyfriend bumped her elbow as he lifted his glass to take a long drink. She lowered her eyes demurely but felt his eyes on her still.

Maybe she'd come back tomorrow.

Drabble tree: write a drabble based on the previous one posted. Lines from the previous drabble are in bold.

#one

"I don't know. She's a widow. It seems a little…disrespectful. "

“Yeah, I said that too.”.

"And what did she say?"

He shrugged. "If you don't like the work, you can always quit."

They were both silent for a long moment. Quitting was never an option. Not in terms of handing in a letter of resignation and maybe having a leaving party with some cupcakes and a signed card. Not, in fact, in terms of quitting while continue to breathe.

Getting fired or walking away amounted to the same thing. Neither was an option.

Death was.

#two

"Why don't you just ask her?"

He shook his head, and gave his friend a rueful smile. "If only it were that simple."

"It is, though."

He shook his head again.

Realisation dawned. "You're afraid."

There was no judgement in his tone, and at this point, no reason to deny it. He shrugged, nodded.

“Afraid of messing things up” he said, “And I really don’t want to mess this up”

"Then don't mess it up. But you can't go on like this. That'll screw things up too. She appreciates honesty and straightforwardness."

He was right, of course.

Damn.

#three

He fiddled with the bow tie.

Surely, he looked like a fool.

The other men here didn't seem to mind, but then they were used to this. He wasn't. He was an interloper, a pretender. He didn’t belong here and any moment now his cover would be blown.

"Where's Rallston?" he asked softly, lifting the champagne glass in front of his lips.

"Still talking to the dowager duchess," Greta said over the earpiece. "Stay calm and blend in."

He'd rather defuse a bomb than try to make small talk at some obnoxious gathering of the rich and privileged.

#four

"Vampires."

"I know what I saw." Her face was serious, no hint of her usual sunny disposition in her tight lips or cool green eyes. It seemed less and less likely that she playing a trick on him and more likely that she was delusional.

"You can't be serious."

She nodded fervently. "I am. He is a vampire."

"Vampires do not exist," he protested, trying to reason with her. "They're mythological creatures, fictions of our subconscious, symbols of our deepest desires and fears; sex, death, blood."

"They don't exist?!

"No."

She pointed behind him. "Tell that to him."

#five

She climbs into his bed, her feet and hands freezing as she cuddles up against him. He turns, pulls her close. She's shaking, and not just from the cold.

"You're freezing." He kisses her hair, wraps as much of his own body around her as he can. She shivers violently for a while and he says nothing more, just whispering comforting noises.

At last, when she's warmer and calmer, he asks her what's wrong.

"I had the most awful dream."

"Do you want to tell me about it?"

She shakes her head. "Not right now. Not until it's daylight outside."

So he simply holds her, and they both sleep until morning.

#six

What he wouldn't give to fall back into that dream again.
With her. Where everything was simple. Beautiful. Perfect.
Where endless waves crashed against the sandy shore. Where the sun always shone but he never got sunburned.
It was paradise, Eden, utopia. It was an unreal place surely, but was she too, unreal?
Not the most beautiful woman in the world, perhaps, for every culture had it's own standards to judge beauty by. But the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. Body and soul. Yes, soulmate, that was what she was.
He'd find her. Somehow. He had to.
