Summary: Nikolai, Aura and Carter are dressed for a costume party.

"What are you supposed to be?" Carter asked. "Dracula?"
"Nothing so uncouth or obvious," Nikolai declared, swishing his cloak about his shoulders. "I am the Phantom of the Opera. Or I will be, when I find where I put my mask."
"Try behind the sofa cushions," Aura advised as she swept into the room. Carter stared at her and she gave him a dazzling smile before curtseying, her many skirts rustling.
"You look nice," Carter said.
"I haven't worn anything like this since that costume ball in Toronto." She picked up a fan from the table and fanned herself coquettishly. "I see you can't get away from being a lawman."
Carter shrugged, hooking one thumb into his belt. "I'm a sheriff, not a cop." While the badge on his vest might be fake, his real one was in his pocket, and the gun in his holster was his service issued weapon. Not that he was expecting trouble, of course. Just that he seemed to run into more of it since meeting Nikolai and Aura, and if that were the case tonight, he wanted to be prepared.
"Perhaps I should have dressed down, been a whore from a wild west cat house," Aura mused. "We should coordinate next time, match our costumes. That would be fun."
Not that she'd coordinated with Nikolai, Carter thought.
"I suppose you know lots of stories about the Old West," he offered, hoping to change the subject.
"A few. Mostly second hand. We did visit Canada during the Gold Rush however. Aha!" Nikloai snatched up the mask. "I will say that, as is always the case, it was not as romantic as the movies would have you believe. Nonetheless, you look the part, Carter. Very dashing."
He accepted the compliment with merely a nod and turned back to Aura. "Well, ma'am, shall we get going to this shindig?"
Aura laughed heartily and extended one gloved hand. "Indeed, sir," she said with a fake Southern drawl. "T'would be my honour."

Oh noes, when a character says they don't expect trouble, trouble usually expects them. O_O And my mind immediately connected the masquerade with the serial killings for some reason. O_O
Am I right? Will there be trouble? Will the murderer be there?
OMG I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. O_O I often see things that are not there at all. O_O
Or are they? o_O
I love the costumes you picked for them! Very fitting! :D Now I want to see a movie based on your Aura verse! :D
*FLAILS*
