"Hey."

Kurt lifted his head and tried to focus. He was on the floor, lying on a towel, in what was neither his house nor, he realised, his t-shirt.

"You're awake. Here."

Kurt managed to sit up and take the glass from Clair. She took the chair, while he settled for leaning back against the sofa, too hungover to get to his feet yet.

"What's in it?"

"Same as in mine. Alka Seltzer XS with an extra half a packet of rehydration salts in fruit juice."

Kurt sipped it and frowned. "Salty."

"That's the point." Clair forced herself to take a mouthful of her own drink.

"How did I get here?"

Clair picked his phone up off the coffee table and gave it to him. The last text message he'd sent was to Justin at 12:30am; Dude, I woke up at my ex's house. I am spooning her half naked roommate. There is a pizza on my shoulder. I need you to come pick me up.

"I told you not to go to Roxanne's house. I said it was a bad idea."

She had, when he'd told her and Justin on Thursday that Roxanne had invited him to a party at her house. Kurt shrugged. "I thought it would be fun. I just got a bit more drunk than I intended. I seem to remember going upstairs because it was late and then I woke up next to half-naked Rachel." He was a little pleased with the coherency of his text message, especially since he barely recalled typing it out.

"Well lucky for you we'd stayed up watching the DVDs of that Spartacus: Gods of the Arena series. I wanted to watch the last episode or we'd have already been in bed. Justin went to fetch you and brought you back here when he saw what state you were in."

"State?"

"You handed me a bottle of red wine and told me you'd fought a weasel, or possibly a mongoose, for it. I told you that you'd been very brave and then you threw up. Luckily I had a bucket ready. I took your shirt off because it wasn't just pizza on your shoulder."

Kurt gestured to his shirt. "What am I wearing then?"

"One of Justin's old t-shirts. Your shirt's in the tumble dryer. I washed it last night."

"Thanks."

"Are you sure you were just drunk? Because I've never seen you quite that out of it."

Kurt shook his head gingerly. "I honestly don't know. Some of Roxanne's friends are a little bit more adventurous than I am. Which is ironic given that she's the one who said I always go too far."

"Yes. Well. Lucky you don't have drug tests at your job."

"Probably so. Anyway, why are you hung-over?"

Clair gave him a grin. "Because I drank all the wine. I didn't want to go to bed until you'd stopped throwing up so I sat at the kitchen table listening to eighties songs and drinking while Justin made sure you vomited into the bucket. Once you managed to drink half a glass of water and keep it down, we put a towel on the floor and left you in the recovery position, just in case." Clair sighed. "And then I threw up in the toilet before I went to bed, but aside from a headache I'm not feeling too bad. Once the Alka starts to work, I'll be ready to eat and I'll be fine."

"What about Justin?"

"He's okay. He only had two beers all night. He's gone for a run in the park. Maybe he'll bring us breakfast back from that café on the corner."

Kurt wasn't sure he could face food for a long while yet, but he appreciated the thought. "You're good friends."

"I know. But what else are friends for?"

"Clair? We wouldn't be friends if it weren't for Justin, would we?"

Clair shook her head, wincing a little at the movement. "Probably not."

"But we are?"

"Of course we are! Otherwise I wouldn't have washed your shirt and found you something clean to wear! Besides you brought me wine. You were very specific that it was for me, even though it was Justin who had to pick you up."

Kurt grinned sheepishly. "I still worry you don't like me."

"Buying my affection?" Clair asked with a grin. "I can live with that."
