Summary: poem that suggests while all the world is a stage, only the few are in the spotlight or can change their assigned lines
Warnings: angsty and pessimistic world view.

Maybe one day I'll write a poem that isn't bitter or angsty.

Bit players

All the world's a stage
Yet the spotlight falls only on the few
The heroes and the villains
While the most heroic are often overlooked
And the most villainous work their schemes behind the scenes
Pulling the strings
Changing the script
Altering the scenery
Camouflaged in good intentions
While their true motive remain lurking in the shadows

And what audience there is
Amongst the players
(For there are plenty who are merely extras
There to bear witness to great events
But not to participate in them)
Sometimes grows uneasy
And speaks of revolution
Of rewriting the assigned roles and tired rhetoric
But they can easily be distracted with
A love triangle or a juicy scandal

Bit players must never be allowed
To take centre stage

Ooh, this is great :D

I love the bit about both unsung heroes and at large villains.

Also, the metaphor of the stage works really well. People always assume the actors are the ones that matter, but as someone with some theatrical experience, I know that it takes everyone to put on a good show, and the message is determined by the writer and director most. Also, tech people are so important. Anyway, then you apply the metaphor so beautifully!

This is really a marvelous word-picture of life, and what's wrong with the world today - great work :D

Thank you :D It pretty much wrote itself, for better or worse. Angsty poem is angsty, but there's a lot of angst in the world right now.
