Stopping the hate
May. 26th, 2011 11:07 amI'm a member of Wipeout Homophobia on Facebook which recently celebrated a one year anniversary, and today the founder of the group celebrates his birthday with just one wish - for more people to join the cause. The group brings to light issues surrounding hate crimes along with more positive stories, with a major focus on identifying hate groups and requesting members to report them as they are against Facebook's TOS.
One post I found very interesting is this: Bisexuality Does Exist. It strives to correct some of the most misconceptions about bisexuality. I certainly found it enlightening. There's this beautiful line in it:
On a wider scale, I'd like to add in straight, asexual, female, male to this mix, along with other issues like 'virginity' and 'femininity' and 'masculinity' that are largely just social constructs that seek to define and limit.
We as humans are complex, a whole made up of of sometimes seemingly contradictory thoughts and feelings and identities. We are never just one aspect of the whole, even though one aspect may sometimes take centre stage.
And hate limits and hurts us all.

LGB & T are not rigid sided boxes to stuff people into, they're circles of overlapping light, they are a Venn diagram.
