Few things that some of you might find interesting:

Facebook decided yesterday that my real name wasn't real enough because I used only initials for my first name. Frak you facebook - see why real name policies are unethical and how my name is me has responded to these sort of policies, including identifying 'who is harmed'.

[profile] fandom_on_dreamwidth; Despite Dreamwidth's reputation for being fandom-centric, finding opportunities to participate in fannish activities here, rather than on other sites, can occasionally be a little bit difficult…[this] is a venue for promoting your festivals, challenges, exchanges, memes, calls for recs, meta and/or commentary and all other things fannish that are hosted in a Dreamwidth community or personal journal. - via [site community profile] dw_community_promo

a comic strip that talks about how really only two things happen to female characters, rape and pregnancy. And posits an interesting way of balancing the scales – via [profile] alderspring

Also, water is wet, or why tv execs need to get a clue: The social media analytics company Banyan Branch produced a report on social media chatter regarding the upcoming fall US television season and revealed that fan activity is not equivalent to show ratings. While this is likely of no surprise to many fans (Firefly, anyone?), such data may help networks get a broader understanding of what their ratings mean for a given show in terms of how it's actually connecting with its audience. report link> - via [syndicated profile] otw_news_feed

And, finally, Thronelanders, I've made a couple of fairly crappy sig tags for [livejournal.com profile] throneland -
here - but please, for points for us both, feel free to make me some more :D

I'll make you some sigs if you want!

Also, I just left a comment on the article about real names policies. Something interesting to me: I was on a FB RPG a while ago for LotS, and obviously had character names. After you said your account was challenged for not being real enough, I went and checked my old RP accounts, and they're all still active and fine. So apparently FB finds these to be 'real':

Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander
Shota D'Rahladen (She married a Rahl, just go with it)
Jennsen Rahl
Severus TheSnape (crossover plot)

I'll get to making them tonight or tomorrow!

Do you want them to say Lisa or Meridian Rose?

Not as fluently as I used to. I've forgotten a lot of it. But I've always loved Klingons and Vulcans, and there was a time in my early teens where I was the fan host at the local Trek con a few times. I even did a song and dance number one year dressed as Data, about how I could never be a great performer because androids don't have feelings.

Yes, I'm pretty much pristineungift everywhere. If Pris went, I would too. I mean, even my husband calls me Pris now. In a way, Pris is more me than the 'real' me ever was.

Wow, that's terrible that FB would ignore your real name. Facepalm.

I mean, if Severus TheSnape passes muster...besides, a name can be anything. There are probably people out there (the children of celebrities?) with even weirder names than Severus TheSnape.

Yay for throneland :D Pris made me some gorgeous sig tags :D

My artistic skills are a bit lacking, but I'm happy to make you some sigs too :D
