30 Day Fanfic Writing Meme – Day 25
Aug. 1st, 2011 05:17 pm25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
Sometimes. Noise distracts me – car horns especially. Sometimes I can only listen to instrumental pieces, other times hard rock will keep my energy level up. Some days I'll listen to a song on repeat while I work on a scene or edit a fic, only to find I can't stand to listen to it at all the next day.
I do have some playlists – angry rock is one I play that can drown out background, though it's a bit distracting to type to; it's good for getting my energy levels up. I have one with instrumental music. I have some that I use for inspiration for certain fics or genres.
I actually use music as a jumping off point quite often; I often get ideas while listening to music, like I'm watching a music video for my fic – fannish or otherwise. Unlike a vidder, though, I don't have to rely on existing source material to work from – though I admire vidders so much for how skilfully they can draw out alternative narratives just from canon sources. Ever after, when I listen to that song, it reminds me of the fic I've probably never actually written [probably at least partly because it's more fun just to listen to the song:P] – until I maybe reuse it as inspiration for a new fic :D

It's so interesting to get different perspectives on writing, through this meme ;)
