For two
legendland challenges. The first was to write a newspaper article; the second was to write micro fics of ten words each in ten categories, all focussed on a particular character or ship. Several of these micro fics placed after voting :D
BANELINGS ATTACK
Another baneling attack devastated the village of Applefield last night. Twenty of the recently-dead descended upon the sleepy village and killed most of the inhabitants in a murderous rage.
One of the survivors, who managed to escape along with his young daughter, was still visibly shaking this morning.
"It was horrible," the man, who wished his identity to be kept secret, said. "Some of them looked normal but some had flesh hanging from their bones. They were killing indiscriminately."
"It's all the fault of the Seeker," Mistress Elana of the Mord'Sith told us. "When the true Lord Rahl was in charge, this sort of thing would never have been allowed to happen."
The Seeker was unavailable for comment.

GUIDE TO BANELINGS
What do the banelings want? Death. They serve only the Keeper and kill to send more souls to the foul Underworld.
How to spot a baneling. Unfortunately banelings look and behave like a living human most of the time. So be on your guard at all times.
How to kill a baneling. Banelings can be killed, but the only certain way to destroy one is to burn them.
How to prevent banelings. It is recommended that, for the duration of this crisis, the deceased are cremated and not interred. With no physical body to inhabit, the soul cannot return to wreak havoc as one of the undead.
Micro Fics
Adventure:
Darken wrote in the journey book: Kill the traitor immediately
Angst: second place
No Jennsen, No Boxes, No kitten. Darken was very sad
AU: joint third place - I was inspired by
hrhrionastar's fic Destiny Swap which I recommend if you haven't read it yet.
Then Darken, The One True Seeker, took the D'Haran throne
Crossover:
Jack Harkness winked at Darken. "So, who's for an orgy?
Death: second place
Death wasn't so bad, Darken thought, when it was temporary.
Episode Related:
The Seeker lived. Darken knew he'd never sleep soundly again.
First time:
Darken lost his virginity to a Mord'sith. Panis watched, gloating.
Friendship:
Egremont was the closest thing Darken had to a friend.
Humour: tied three ways for third place
"I Said Wizard," Darken yelled. "Not bring me a lizard."
Hurt/Comfort: joint second place
Egremont patted Darken's shoulder after they'd buried the poor kitten.

Date: 2011-07-19 10:38 pm (UTC)I've never heard of micro-fics. These are all very creative and clever.
I enjoyed the baneling article, especially the little notation that the Seeker was unavailble for comment :D
Congratulations on placing in 5 categories!!
Thanks for sharing.

Date: 2011-07-20 03:39 pm (UTC)Yes, the cracky-angst one was one of my favourites, and everyone's :D
The Seeker being unavailable - well, it could be editorial bias, given the Mord'Sith's comment, or maybe Richard is off saving the world. Or rescuing a kitten :P
