I'm dropping a couple of landcomms (not signing up for the next phases) which leaves me three of my current favourites to focus extra attention on. By January I may sign back up with those I've dropped or pick a new one (or two...or three). Maybe take a more active role in one of the comms - I've barely any modding experience so that might be something new.
October-December will be busy with all the writing I've signed up for/will participate in/want to do, so I'm hoping to use this mini hiatus to write more. And cross-post more. And finish my
scifiland bigbang project. And read fic I've had open in tabs for weeks.
The only problem I see with my wanting to write more non-challenge fic is the lack of deadlines. Things like Yuletide clearly have a deadline. Landcomms have specific deadlines. 20in20's have deadlines (not that I've done one yet). When it's open-ended though (like
100_tales) or the deadlines are very far away, or there's no deadline except the arbitrary ones I set for myself, I find it harder to get things done.
What strategies do you use to motivate yourself? Do you set deadlines when there aren't any? Do you work better to a deadline or find it too stressful? Do you leave landcomm challenges to the last minute, or find yourself doing all 20 icons two days before they're due? Or are you really organised and, more importantly, disciplined?

Also, as a V fan, I found this news story sort of amusing. Truth imitating fiction?

"Any intelligent aliens living elsewhere in the universe should be considered God's children - no matter what they look like, the Pope's astronomer has said."
Which is, of course, the Vatican's stance in the show, despite the threat the Visitors pose :)
