BAG post May 2019

A quick personal, aka BAG post.
Trope bingo, I'm nearly done, hoping to make 9 fills for a cross (upside down T shape).
2 of the landcomms I follow are on/about to go on hiatus. One is the only DW one. Both are multifandom. This leaves me with 1 LJ one (superheroland) and I am thankful for it but sometimes my interests are broader. I especially loved being able to make stock icons for example for landsofmagic.
It's not screw DW or screw journalling or screw fandom, but personal issues that have led to the moderators needing time away, so I'm not angry, just disappointed and sorry for their problems, and hopeful they can come back at some point.
I shall try and post the roundup of landcomm things I haven't yet posted here soon.
GYWO and MMOM - I'm still behind on my wordcount. I did write 15 MMOM fills which helped with the wordcount, and met my goal of 15 which was good.
Something I posted anonymously to AO3 got more hits and positive comments than anything I've posted in years, maybe ever. It's the zeitgeist, but still. It makes me feel both "sometimes my work is worth commenting on" and "oh ok only This thing in This fandom is worth reading?"
I'm tired of both the "how dare you want comments and views write only for yourself" and the "it's meaningless, delete if it's got zero comments/is older than five years" stances. Tumblr has only exacerbated those and related ideas, that comments are not required, that comments put too much pressure on readers, that authors should 'expect' flames if they publish, that you should be constantly deleting your blog and changing your username every five minutes because who cares, everything is pointless anyway. (In fandom alone we'd have no preservation of zines, no conventions, no AO3 if everyone behaved like this...)
All this in spite of the outpouring of regret from readers who have lost favourite fics when authors delete/have their work deleted/a site gets deleted. The AO3 OpenDoors project tries to preserve old archives that are going to be otherwise lost as a way to help preserve fannish history.
On comments vs rude comments, thanks to everyone who said nice things when I did have to delete those nasty comments! It's not happened on anything else with my name attached :) And I got some nicer comments on that fic at AO3 and at the landcomm where I first posted it which made up for it.
I donated - not much, but every bit counts - to the fundrasier for Emilia Clarke's charity #SameYou to help young adults recover from brain injury. Clarke recently shared her own experiences that occurred between the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones. The fundraiser hopes to support her charity and show support for her as an inspiration and as someone who brought Daenerys to life. (fundraiser)
The last time I donated online to a charity was a fundraiser showing support for Candice Patton (money going to GirlsInc) who has suffered significant racism from The Flash Fans who don't like seeing a black Iris West.
Fandom can be toxic but never forget it can do good things.
Some of my favourite shows got renewed despite a couple being 'on the bubble' so yay! I did lose The Santa Clarita Diet though which is sad, thanks Netflix, for all the cancelled shows on other networks you've picked up, you kill this unique Neflix original comedy?!
Couple of weeks ago after reading the entry where someone said they saw goslings I thought it was time to go to the park and see if I could spot some. I did! They weren't baby-babies, larger with heads still yellowish but more greenish bodies as the feathers begin to turn brown. Still very cute :)
We have a few pairs of house sparrows regularly visiting the feeders in the garden and I put mealworms out every day for them and the nesting blackbird pair. The blackbirds live in a tree but frequently forage elsewhere but it's fun to watch the sparrows as they spend a lot of time here.
This morning I saw baby bluetit fledglings! I don't know if you can see the linked google photo and it's a little blurry but here you go: https://photos.app.goo.gl/y5KbCiC6CA5kogDo8
The weather might be brighter over the next days so I will try and enjoy it and spend less time online! So I probably won't be around/responding to comments for a while.
