I hope you find this letter useful. I tend to ramble because I think more information and plenty of potential ideas is better than little detail on likes/dislikes or one really specific thing; that's my opinion as an author, anyway :) I'm sure if we've matched on a fandom you already have some great ideas for fic :)
I'm multi-fannish and can multi-ship. My long list of fandoms is here in case you have a marvellous idea for a crossover/fusion. I've mentioned some particular possibilities for the specific fandoms but there's a lot more options than those.
I'm at AO3 and at tumblr – the rest of my social media links are in my about post.
DNW major character death, kid!fic/pregnancy (de-aged characters are fine),
rape/non-con, animal death, a/b/o
I'm not saying I never read/write any of these things but they're not on my Yuletide wishlist!
General Likes and squicks
I am a fan of hurt/comfort (aka hc/ aka whump, but I usually only physically whump the guys!), drama, gen, romance, crack/humour, character study, action/adventure, canon au's. Being shown another side to a character. Rare ships, some OT3s. Fairy tales and mythological narratives and motifs.
Other AUs including historical, especially Regency flavoured AUs but please note I'm not invested in historical accuracy over story/characters so don't worry about being too knowledgeable about detail!
Kinks and favourite tropes: Truly optional but some people like to write more kinky fic and while I'm not big on explicit sex, I do have kinks and tropes I enjoy.
Non-sexual bed sharing, hair kink, tattoos/scars, bathing/showering, desk sex, navel play. Mild BDSM, handcuffing, some rough play where it's in character. Roleplay, including medical roleplay and interrogation but with more realism in the play than "sexy nurse outfit" or "shirtless cop".
Squicks: hurt/comfort aka whump is a big (Yes please) thing for me and things like poisoning, drowning, etc are great. However despite them being canon in some fandoms, I'd rather not have broken bones (other than ribs), brain damage (mild concussions are fine) and permanent disabilities (including amputations). Not much into age-play though the comforting aspects eg bedtime story reading are good. As per DNW, I avoid pregnancy fics with the exception of things like body horror alien impregnation. Not here for making characters who smoke/drink/swear in canon become Puritanical in fic.
Other stuff: I can appreciate well-written porn/erotica, and sensual scenes are great, but I'm asexual and can't abide sex-is-vital or sex-is-pinnacle when it comes to relationships.
Non-sexual intimacy is more important and endearing to me – things like heartfelt discussions, kissing, cuddling, displays of trust, emotional closeness. Let them get tipsy and spill secrets and braid hair, etc ;)
As in previous years, I'll mention each fandom now with some rambling and some potential ideas that I think could be fun.
Specific Fandoms
1. The Orville: Ed Mercer
Background/canon: I caught season 1 on a re-run and was amazed by how good it was, how it's more inspired by than parodying Star Trek and ST:TNG. It captures the excitement of space exploration with the humour, great characters, and forays into social issues, that Trek embodies. I'm excited for s2!
I haven't written any fic (yet?) but I've read quite a lot of the completed works for the fandom.
There's little fic however, so I knew I was going to nominate this show for Yuletide! I picked Ed but I like most of the characters so you can include anyone else – please do! Ed's a captain who cares about his crew, even when that puts him at odds with command. He's not that experienced yet and he's flawed, but he's doing his best.
Shipwise, gen for this show is great but I'm fine with Ed/Alara, and I'm fond of Alara/Isaac. Here very much for Ed&Kelly, Ed&Alura, Ed/&Gordon, and Ed&crew generally.
random ideas
Episode fic; make it as serious or as cracky as you like. Bonus for some Ed H/C.
The Simulator gives a wealth of opportunities to explore AU scenarios or dangerous situations without actual harm. Fusions would work here of course; the crew frequently reference media from our time period.
In "Firestorm" we see Gordon, LaMarr, and Bortus trying to access the Simultator dressed for, as the Wiki explains an "18th century duel". I'd love to see that happen, maybe Ed joins them for their outing as someone's second, or maybe something goes Horribly Wrong as often happens to holodecks/simulators and the three are trapped until Ed and some of the others have to go in and rescue them.
Pre-canon; Ed and Gordon at the academy getting into mischief!
Fluff: Karaoke/movie night for the crew.
Pretty much anything goes here so long as there's a happy ending :)
2. The Resident: Conrad Hawkins, Nicolette "Nic" Nevins
Canon/background: I've seen all of first season, not yet started season two. I came to the show having watched medical dramas before but mostly from seeing Conrad's Matt Czuchry in The Good Wife, and Nic's Emily VanCamp in Revenge (and MCU).
I haven't (yet?) written for this fandom. There's some fic but not much so another one I wanted to nominate!
random ideas
I was worried for Nic nearing the end of season one, but enjoyed how protective Conrad was, taking her to his place to sleep which was the beginning of them finding their way back to each other. More on that protective aspect or rekindling of the relationship would be great!
Fluff: poker night for Conrad, Nic, Devon etc.
Fund raiser: Conrad taking Nic to an elegant fundraising dinner-dance. Maybe she meets his father for the first time here, he's keen to get to know the woman whom Conrad was willing to come to him for help for – the woman wearing the ring.
Pre-canon: First meeting between Conrad and Nic. Or maybe they corresponded when he was in the military?
H/C: Nic taking care of Conrad because he needs it or as roleplay.
Crossover/crack fusion with The Good Wife/Legal Drama AU, or Revenge/Spy AU.
Basically anything with Conrad and Nic that ends sweet or at least hopeful for the future would be amazing :)
3. Midnight, Texas Manfred Bernardo
Canon/background: I've seen all of season one and read the first 2 books, 3rd I'm struggling through. I love show!Manfred over book!Manfred. I read and write quite a bit in the fandom at AO3 though we always need MOAR fic hence my request :D
I came to the show from Arnaud's The Borgias (and other works) so any crossover/fusion/au involving Cesare/Lucrezia would be more than fine ;)
Shipwise: Manfred &/Olivia, Manfred &/Fiji, Manfred&Emilio, also Manfred&Bobo and the overall Midnighters as Family.
Manfred and Fiji have inherited magical gifts that have been a curse as well as a blessing, and Manfred and Olivia have both had somewhat difficult and unconventional childhoods and adolescence, so there's lots in common to explore there.
I was hopeful for Ace!Manfred and still explore that in fic; same for virgin!Fiji had she not had to sacrifice her virginity to save the town. Sadly the show hasn't followed through and the black ring was just a coincidence but give me asexual/grey-ace Manfred, or even virgin Manfred. I'm also okay with bi-Manfred - and ace but bi-romantic Manfred - especially pre-canon or with an OC.
I'm never averse to Mr Snuggly appearing in fic to make a snarky comment or two!
random ideas
Canon AU: Manfred never goes to Midnight but meets some of the residents in another way. Maybe he's a success in Las Vegas until they come to beg him to help save the town.
Fluff: Midnighters are family. Have them do something together like throw a party, or band together against an unwanted visitor.
H/C: even the show loves to whump Manfred. Olivia and Fiji in particular are good at saving Manfred and patching him up. Or pre-canon, was that really a gunshot wound from Hightower or something more mystical? (they ran as the ceremony was starting how/when did that happen?)
Crack/humour: Wacky "typical day in Midnight" stuff. Crossover/fusion could work well here with the mystical nature of the town and the artefacts they often come across.
Fantasy AU: Midnight but in a fully fantasy world rather than our modern day. Bonus points for Manfred and Fiji being able to talk to/control unicorns.
Basically Manfred being Manfred and Midnighters being Midnighters is all that's required here :)
