Meme - Original Fic/SA Day 2

meridian_roseAs I mentioned before I "won" NaNoWriMo, but the novel is not finished. I promised I'd work on it this month, but for various reasons, that is not going well.
I wondered if I could recapture my enthusiasm the way I do for fanfic – I can't revisit canon (well I can read what I've written so far, but that's a dangerous thing when you're still working on something, you can become even more overwhelmed or start editing instead of writing new words) but I can play with the world. Make fanworks (pics, mixes, etc), write AUs, complete memes, etc.
Today I've gathered up some questions from various ship memes and answered them as best as I can for Bryony/Emeri.

* who uses their words to fight people and who uses their fists
Bryony's going to try and talk her way out of things if she can't run. For Emeri, words can be a weapon (and I think he'll try and teach Bryony defensive spells at some point) but he's okay with a sword too and in the heat of the moment might just punch someone.
* who’s more likely to hog the blankets
Bryony I guess. Women do this more, I think – we feel the cold more due to our anatomy and fat distribution.
* who bakes and who cooks
Bryony's probably more likely to bake, but they're both okay at cooking, which surprises her that Emeri's capable of making food when he feels like doing so. Except that time he cut his hand open, but accidents happen.
* who’s a sucker for matching couple things
Emeri. He's always trying to give Bryony things and if they happen to match his outfits, well, it's *coincidence*
* who’s more likely to give the silent treatment when they’re upset
Emeri.
* who has better “puppy dog eyes”
Hmmm. Bryony can probably do doe eyes and Emeri can do kicked puppy, so IDK.
* who’s better at being a functional adult
Technically Emeri, he's head of his household, though that's mostly just him these days, and Bryony usually leaves a lot of things to her sister. But there are things Bryony's good at dealing with that maybe Emeri isn't.
* who’s more introverted and who’s more extroverted
Bryony's more introverted. She's not even fond of being around too many people. Emeri's more used to dealing with people and while he needs time alone to study, he does enjoy some of the attention of being The Sorcerer and chief protector of the village.
* Who sleeps in the other’s lap?
I like to think they take turns at cuddling/comforting.
* Who walks around the house half-naked and who yells at them to put on some clothes?
I don't think there'd be yelling. Neither of them are ashamed of their bodies and given the circumstances they're going to have to get comfortable with each other quite quickly. And Emeri's hardly going to yell at Bryony for displaying herself, and she can't exactly be angry at him for dressing or not as he wants in his home.
* Which one tells the other not to stay up all night and which one stays up all night anyway?
For various reasons they often both stay awake and that's fine. Bryony's initially concerned about waking Emeri, but he doesn't care. Given her fear of the dark he even leaves lights on all night in case she needs to get up.
Why are so many of these prompts so bossy? Is domesticity such a competition?
* Which one of your OTP overdoes it on the alcohol and which one makes the other stop drinking?
Again, they are doing things together, baring their souls together, not being controlling asshats to each other. How/why do people stay together if they're constantly being told "put more clothes on, put down the whisky, go to bed now!"
* Which one reads OTP prompts and says “Oh that’s us!” and which one goes “Eh, not really”?
They're both heavy readers and I think they'd both get a kick out of the idea of seeing themselves in fictional characters, though not necessarily the same couples :)
* Which one constantly wears the other’s clothes?
Emeri's clothes will fit Bryony better than the other way around!
* Which one does the posing while the other one draws?
I think Bryony would be posing.
* Which one likes to surprise the other with a lot of small random gifts?
Emeri, and Bryony has issues about it, though she starts to accept it.
* Which one screams about the spider and which one brings the spider outside?
Neither. Bryony freaks out over what she thinks might be something magical and dangerous, but she insists she's not going to scream over a spider or a rat. She's perfectly capable of putting a spider outside, as if Emeri, who is called on to deal with the supposed threat of a magical creature in the cellar.
* Who keeps getting threatened by the other’s overprotective older sibling?
Emeri is the elder, Bryony the younger, leaving Emeri to be told off by Bryony's sister Kerine, I suppose. Emeri's attempt to protect his sister only made things worse, leading to part of the trouble he's currently in.
* Who’s the first one to admit they have feelings for the other?
I haven't written this scene yet.
* How good would your OTP be at parenting?
Neither of them want children of their own, but Bryony is a decent babysitter, and they'd be good with nephews/nieces.
* Who makes the bad puns and who makes a pained smile every time the other makes a pun?
Emeri makes puns :)
* Who comes home from work to see that the other one bought a puppy?
Bryony would come home to find the puppy and not have the heart to do anything but love it.
* Which one owns a pet that the other is absolutely terrified of?
Bryony's initial terror of the cellar creature is abated by the reveal it's only a cat. Emeri is unsurprised, if still a little hurt, that Clawdine (told you he makes puns) prefers Bryony's company to his, as she always preferred Sabrina's.
* If your OTP went on vacation, where would they go and what would they do?
Emeri wants to show Bryony the University and the ocean and all the things he's has the opportunity to experience that she has not.
* how often do they fight?
Often, though they bicker more than fight, because they're relying on each other and can't really afford to drive the other away
* what do they do when they’re away from each other?
Read, go for walks, write, Bryony stitches things
* nicknames for each other?
I haven't given them pet names yet. The child they end up babysitting one afternoon can't say "Bryony" and so "Briney" is a nickname Emeri likes to call her sometimes.
* Who spends almost all their money on the other?
Emeri can try but…
* who is more likely to pay for dinner?:
Emeri. He's the one with the cash. To the point where Bryony keeps telling him not to keep trying to buy her loyalty or affection, because she's uneasy about the wealth gap, the class gap, the ten year age gap.
* what would they get each other for gifts?
Emeri thinks jewellery is always appropriate. Bryony would probably try to find a book not in the impressive library.
* what would they do if the other one was hurt?
A large chunk of the book deals with this, one way or the other.
* How differently do they think of each other now compared to when they first met?
They've met before, and Bryony had a crush on him, something she put aside because she expects a man like Emeri to marry someone more like him, not a seamstress. Being thrown together now makes her reassess Emeri and the possibilities, now she's a sorceress in training. For Emeri's part, he develops a deep respect and affection for her, unconcerned at this point with social mores.
* What do their friends/family think of their relationship?
Their respective siblings are not around for most of the book, nor their parents. Bryony worries that the villagers think she's a gold-digger (though I wouldn't use the term in the book itself). Emeri refuses to care what other people think. If/when their sisters are around, they'd approve.
* Think of a new way (AU, different situation, etc.) they could have met for the first time.
Young Bryony got lost wandering out in the woods and was found by Sabrina and Emeri who took her home, and he'll always be her protector in that respect, but she worries that he'll always see her as the crying lost child.
