Snowflake Challenge Day 12

meridian_roseBefore I post the question and answer, I have a question for anyone reading. I'm posting it to Tumblr too in the hopes someone can tell me. You've all seen Texts From Last Night, Headlines from the Onion, Tumblr Text Posts, where you take an image from a fandom and add one of those text types onto it:
Is there a catch-all term for these images + text posts? Is it just a type of meme or, like LOLCATs is there a particular name?

Anyway, on to Day 12
What makes you fannish? And by that we mean, what is it about a tv show/movie/book/band/podcast/etc that takes you from, "Yeah, I like that," to "I need MOAR!!!" Is it a character? A plotline? The pretty? Subtext that’s just screaming to be acknowledged?
Characters. If I love the characters I'll put up with more plotholes or plotlines that irk me than otherwise though I do have limits (and might stop watching but still continue to enjoy the fandom).
If I love the characters I'll want to write and read fic about them. I don’t know if there are specifics that draw me in though I joke I have types (space cowboy is one, Han Solo was my first crush, then there's Mal Reynolds, Peter Quill and Dark Matter's Marcus Boone; female characters who are fighters despite/because of tragic pasts like River Tam and Legend of the Seeker's Cara Mason).
Sometimes I can point to an episode or scene though and go 'here; this is where I fell in love'. Othertimes it creeps up gradually and goes from something I watch to something I creatively engage with.
Occasionally there's only one or two characters I like in a show and I'll only read/write fic centered on them. So it's definitely characters that push me over the line into fannish involvement.
