Really? In "Risks and Precautions", when Kat and Honor fight over her having sex with Rafiq, Cal tells Honor not to feel threatened/worried over men like him because they're just dalliances and that "I've watched you watch her for years. And I've watched her look at you, too. You could never be a dalliance. That's why she keeps you at a distance."
Which I thought made it clear that while there's mutual attraction it has never been acted on. I'll mention more when I get to your other review :D

I'm glad Cal comes across well. He's the much put upon best friend but he really doesn't mind, until Kat and Honor are fighting and he's caught in the crossfire!

At some point I'll have to figure out the thing about frogs properly. I had some vague metaphor lined up but the next day when I woke up I couldn't remember it properly either, so Cal didn't get to. Maybe when I figure it out again, I can make it work :D

It's one of his better qualities that he's utterly unimpressed with Kat's royal status because it helps keep her grounded :D Even Tara, who has issues with nobles, shows more respect for Kat's station, but for Cal, she's Kat first and High Queen second.
