I have always loved the Arthurian tales, but only became deeply interested in their various origins when I visited Glastonbury and Tintagel quite a few years ago. I'm interested in the tales themselves, but also how they have changed over time and continue to be re-interpreted.

My favorite versions are: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley(written from the viewpoint of Morgaine, who as half-sister to Arthur I believe would be Morgana's counterpart); The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell; and a series of books by Parke Godwin that seem to be rather hard to find in recent years. All of these authors focus on the clash between early Christianity and Paganism in Britain after the departure of the Romans.

[If I'm not mistaken, J.R.R. Tolkien's reputation among the literary (i.e.snobbish) elite who look down on LotR is his translation of Sir Gwaine and the Green Knight which is still considered to be a definitive work.]

I'd love to discuss theories, but I'm a little rusty since it's been awhile since I've read most of these books.
