An overview of my past Yuletide fiction.
Yuletide 2009
Walkabout
Legend of the Seeker
LJ/AO3
My first Yuletide fic, and one of the first fics I wrote in this fandom (The crack fic An Ideal Match was published prior to the Yuletide deadline so it's a close thing) – though it's now the fandom I'm most prolific in, by quite a stretch (partly due to writing lots of drabbles for
legendland and
peoplespalace)
The summary is: Pre-series. A disguised Rahl journeys his lands and finds kindness and disloyalty alike.
I'm still pleased with it, it got some nice reviews, and I got two lovely Yuletide gift fics in my requested fandoms so this was a great start to the Yuletide experience.
Yuletide 2010
Family
Veritas: The Quest
LJ/AO3
Summary: Set in a not too distant future for the team. Juliet has recently completed her PhD and while Solomon introduces her to his contacts at an exhibition opening, Nikko and Vincent discuss the relationships within the team and the nature of family.
Despite my love for this very small fandom, I'd never written for it before. As such I was glad to get a beta for this to make sure the characters were still in character, but overall this was a fun fic to write, and was well received by the recipient. I received a great LotS Cara/Zedd fic this year!
I also wrote 'treats' this year:
Fandom: The Listener, Faith, LJ/AO3 Iris believed herself to be a faith healer; the truth was she was a telepath. Post "Iris", she is making a new life for herself.
Fandom: Fringe, Not Her World, LJ/AO3 Early season three fic. This is not her life, not her world. Olivia is certain of that now, and must hold onto that fact if she's to make it back home.
Fandom: Discworld/Nighmare Before Christmas, The Ill-advised Skeletal Exchange Programme, LJ/AO3 - Death has apparently temporarily exchanged places with his pen pal, Jack Skellington. Susan is, understandably, Not Impressed (though the Death of Rats finds the whole thing hilarious)
Skeletal Exchange is the most read of any of my fanfics, ever, helped along by several recs during and post the exchange. It was a lot of fun to write because Susan and Jack Skellington are both awesome in their own way.
Yuletide 2011
Not Bluffing
Human Target
LJ/AO3
Summary: "It's not that I'm not good at poker," Guerrero clarified. "It's just that I don't like to bluff." Guerrero attends a poker game, but the stakes are higher than his opponent realises.
The second time I'd written in this fandom – my beta
dorothydeath really helped me polish this one up and get Guerrero spot on character-wise. It's got good reviews which mostly comment upon the characterisation, which is lovely to hear. I got three great fics from two of my requested fandoms which was awesome.
I wrote a New Year's Resolution fic as I couldn't make the deadline for the Yuletide treats. Fandom: Fringe/Falling Skies, Steel Fist in a Velvet Glove, LJ/AO3 - the letter writer's suggestion for a crossover inspired me, and the review I got from them later was very positive, so I felt pleased with that.
This year? I've written one fic for my gift recipient which of course is super secret. So far I've written no treats. There's until next year's Yuletide preparations begin to write a New Year's Resolution or two, though.
