Title: Sinking
Fandom: Original
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 216
Prompt: For the writerverse drabble challenge prompts 'pain', 'unending', and bonus - write as letter/email
Summary: A final goodbye letter
Warnings: suicidal ideation
My beloved
I am not going to say 'do not weep'
For weep you will, I know
And I am not going to say 'do not be angry'
Because you will be angry with me, this too I know
I can say 'do not blame yourself'
But I doubt it will make any difference
You will decide what your part in this is,
I can only say that there have been times you've been my mainstay
And kept me on course
And times you've turned away and left me adrift
But neither of those matter any longer
I am sinking and cannot be salvaged
I can say that I do not do this to hurt you
Whether you believe it or not
And I know it will hurt you – but only for a while
But only to end my own pain
Which now seems all encompassing
Unending
Eternal
Remember me fondly, when you can
Not broken as I am now
But someone who once had dreams and ambitions
Who had things to laugh about
Recall the better times,
Memories that we built together
They may be bittersweet now
But the past cannot be changed – I know this all too well
So keep them close, the treasures they are
And in time, if you can,
Forgive me

I think it's interesting that the person who is writing the letter is very passive-aggressive about refusing to let the other person off the hook for being at least partially responsible for what the writer has decided to do.
This:
But only to end my own pain
Which now seems all encompassing
Unending
Eternal
really cuts to the bone.
