Title: Stranded
Fandom: Original
'Verse/Series: Aura
Pairing/Characters: Aurelia/Nikolai
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 309
Prompt: For the
writerverse prompt 'Your characters are on a desert island'
Summary: It's not all Nikolai's fault they're stranded, but he's going to have to keep apologising anyway
Warnings: None
"Are you still sulking?"
Aurelia said nothing, staring out across the ocean, and her silence spoke volumes.
"I said I'm sorry," Nikolai said for what must have been the hundredth time. "It wasn't my fault the ship sank. I have a great many powers but I do not control the weather or the seaworthiness of any vessel."
She turned fierce eyes on him. "This trip was your idea. I wanted to stay and visit the other two museums."
With a sigh, Nikolai sat down beside her. He picked up a handful of fine sand and let it trickle through his fingers. "I know. I'm sorry. We should have waited for better weather."
Aurelia shifted, her hair shimmering in the sunlight as her long locks rippled over her shoulders. Nikolai saw a self-satisfied smile tug at her lips at his admission that this was, in part, his fault.
Things could be worse. They hadn’t been carrying much luggage for this short trip, and he'd managed to retrieve most of it, along with food and even some water in tightly sealed jars. They'd polished off two of the bottles of what passed for wine, but he'd put the rum aside for when Aurelia started to get really desperate. People knew where they'd been heading– at some point, even the dreamy-eyed Robin would realise they hadn't returned and send out a search party. They just had to wait it out.
Boredom would be the worst of it. Clothes and sheets had been laid out on rocks or hung over bushes to dry, and they'd put the books and maps they'd retrieved in direct sunlight too, but Nikolai had doubts about how well the papers would survive. And without books, they'd have to resort to other means of entertaining themselves.
Nikolai knew one activity they wouldn't be engaging in until Aurelia forgave him.

Date: 2012-05-24 07:17 pm (UTC)This is so sweet, with the shipwreck and the lovers' quarrel. And we know they'll be okay because they're too epic to be more than mildly inconvenienced by being stranded on an island ;D

Date: 2012-05-25 10:00 am (UTC)They're definitely more inconvenienced than in danger, but Aurelia won't forget about it in a hurry and will bring it up for decades afterwards!

The last line was perfect.

Date: 2012-05-28 06:50 am (UTC)Yes; while I'm still playing with their mythology, they can tolerate sunlight but they don't have access to (all) their powers.

OMG, this is so adorable and hilarious and I totally love it, awwwwwwww! :D *FLAILS*
Also this drabble makes me wonder about all sorts of things (you know me and my annoying questions). Who's Robin? What time period is that? Where were they heading? Is there more of this part of their story? Is it connected to the present case with the mysterious serial killer? If it is then how? Where can I buy my ten novels of Aura/Nikolai to get your autograph on them?
BB, this is a great piece! Thank you so much for writing and posting it! It's the best thing that has happened to me in... I don't even know how long a time. Thank you! :D
I'm sorry it took me so long to read and comment.
Thank you for still tolerating me! O_O

Date: 2012-07-01 09:21 pm (UTC)Um, I needed a desert island fic for the challenge so I made all this up quite quickly. Pre-series, so a steamboat or something rather than a modern boat. Going from somewhere cultured, perhaps on the Greek mainland, to somewhere less cultured but still interesting (at least to Nikolai) - maybe a natural occurrence like caves or a waterfall. Except now they're washed up on a deserted island and have to wait for Robin (who may be male or female, I chose a gender neutral name in case I wanted to develop the character later) to realise they're missing!
Which doesn't answer your questions really, but I don't have all the answers yet :D
