Title: Watching the World Go By
Fandom: Original
Pairing/Characters: original unnamed m and f characters
Rating: PG
Word Count: 247
Prompt: For the
writerverse prompts ''Come Rain or Shine' and 'Black and White'
Summary: She watches him through her window, and wonders
Warnings: None
She sees him from where she stands at her window
Coffee or tea in hand, usually
Enjoying the morning
Watching the world go by
He walks past, his dog trotting alongside him
Sometimes, if she stands there for a while
Watching the birds pecking at the grass verges
Or a squirrel dashing across the road to dart up a tree
She sees them going back too
Rain or shine, he goes on this errand
He's a sort of constant in her life
If she misses him – maybe she slept in
Or he was out earlier than usual, or is on holiday
She worries a little
She doesn't know his name
Just that he seems content
Walking the dog each day
A black and white mongrel of some sort
She thinks it's a male but she could be wrong
It's harder to guess an animal's gender
Even the dog's winter coat is black with fluorescent stripes
Not a bright pink coat, like the one on the girl Chihuahua
Who's walked by the elegantly dressed woman at irregular times
Sometimes she thinks she'd like to meet the man
Say hello, and pet his dog, and talk about the weather
She wonders if he knows she watches him go past
If he ever thinks about the people he passes every day
If he worries when he doesn't see them
Or if he's wrapped up in his own thoughts
Taking the time to let his mind wander
Much as she does.

Date: 2012-04-21 06:50 pm (UTC)I keep wanting to tell her to put down her coffee and go out and meet him - then I remember that I would probably be that woman who looks out the window watching the world go by. And it makes me think about how fast the years are going by.
You created a lovely atmosphere here, and great descriptions.
