For the
writerverse challenge 3c, write a song from the movie. So, from 'The High Queen', here is the vigorous tavern song, 'Warrior Queen' featured in the movie, which contains some both actual and potentially disturbing parallels for Kat and Honor. The soundtrack cover art is also included.
Thanks to Anna for her patience listening to unmusically inclined me fret over how I was going to deal with tempo and rhythm, and who reassured me on the differences between poetry and musical lyrics until I stopped worrying over the technicalities and focussed on the overall story the song tells :D
Warrior Queen
Fair Catriona had hair like a flame
Strong was her sword arm and true was her aim
No man could best her though many did try
Their hearts did she break, and one lost an eye
Word soon spread of the queen with a sword
To every village, both near and abroad
Raven haired Liam did hear so he came
To see if this woman deservèd her fame
Chorus:
Warrior queen, warrior queen
You fear he'll try to enslave ye
Warrior queen, why can't you see
He only wishes to love thee
Liam watched in amazement as battles she fought
But it was his heart that fair Cat had caught
He swore to defend her and that much was true
Yet bedding her, that he was planning to do
Liam tried wooing the queen with his charms
But she would not simply fall into his arms
It's not for your looks, don't be so glum
But I'll not be your wife and thus under your thumb
Repeat chorus
Liam would never admit his defeat
He tried to play fair and even to cheat
He laced up her corsets and polished her sword
He fought at her side and awaited reward
Catriona relied upon Liam by now
She even did love him in spite of her vow
But she never told him in fear of her life
For he'd take all her titles if she were his wife
Repeat chorus
They rode into battle one winter's day
And many a soldier the warrior slayed
But upon her knees, tears she did shed
When she discovered that Liam was dead
Fair Catriona lived for a long time
She never did wed and her fame never died
Her only regret; Liam never knew
Never did hear her say that 'I love you'
Warrior queen, warrior queen
You feared he'd try to enslave ye
Warrior queen, why couldn't you see
He only wishèd to love thee
