Title: Hello, Sailor
Fandom: Original fic
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 299
Prompt: For the thirty days of fiction meme prompt #1 Write a scene saying “hello”
Summary: Being a beached mermaid is no fun - unless there's something you could gain from it
Notes: While this is intended be readable as a one-shot, it follows on from 'Beached'[lj/dw]; all entries in this universe will be tagged c: nala
Nala tried to wriggle backwards, but the waves pulled away from her as if they were purposefully doing so. Damn. She'd have to wait until the sea came back in, and hope she didn't burn too badly in the sunshine. She could probably move forwards using her elbows but the trees and rocks that would give her shelter were so far away. She lay her head down on the sand, feeling very sorry for herself.
Being a beached mermaid was no fun at all.
A shadow fell across her. "What are you?" asked a man's voice in amazement.
Nala lifted her head wearily to look up at him. He was tall and his clothes were tattered, though his eyes were kind.
"Mermaid," she said shortly. She thumped her tail against the sand a few times in demonstration.
"I think I 'm hallucinating," he said seriously.
"I wish I were," Nala said. "You could be a gentleman and offer me your shirt."
His eyes reached her bared breasts and he flushed. Immediately, he slipped off his torn shirt and draped it over her shoulders. His skin was bronzed beneath the linen, and his muscles taut. Raina would be incredibly jealous, Nala thought with satisfaction.
"I'm Nala," she said. "Hello, sailor."
"I'm no sailor. I was a prisoner aboard the vessel that sank. My name is Cortez."
Well he was free of his captors, but now he was a prisoner on this isolated island.
"We're both stuck here then," Nala said, willing tears to well up. She pouted a little, and flapped her tail again as if distressed. "I'll burn in this sun."
"No you won't," Cortez said firmly. "I'll help you."
Nala hid a smile. She had him at her beck and call and without singing even a single note.

And your original characters are very interesting! *flailing* :D I'm dying to know more about them. :D
More planned - that's great to hear! :D

Date: 2011-07-28 04:47 pm (UTC)The main problem is that... English is still not my first language. O_O
I write in Russian...
Well, mostly. Some dialogs I do write in English and then struggle to translate. o_O There's a parallel universe (with magic, of course) that I describe and the half of the world there is British colonies. Well... they are not called 'British' there, all names are different, but that's what they are essentially. Also my heroine is American... The LotS fandom influenced me like @_@
So I would REALLY want to know your opinion!
Another problem is that I'm a coward but I'll try to redeem that.
Thank you for your support! :D

Date: 2011-07-28 05:16 pm (UTC)Yes, Riona helps me a lot! :D I could have never done it without her.
With no beta for this fic I don't even know if I can do anything...
You would probably have to suffer through errors/epic stupidity in every single sentence...
But I'll try to work up my nerve. Thank you! Honestly. Thank you! *hugs*
