For various [livejournal.com profile] legendland challenges I've created and written about an OC called Marrah Latham.

For the 'invent an OC' challenge, I had to name her, tell her background in a story, and make a team banner featuring her [I picture her as Felicia Day].

Introduction

Marrah Latham was raised in a small town on the borderlands of D'Hara. When she was a child the new Lord Rahl visited and she instantly developed a crush on the young Darken Rahl. She was also fascinated by the Mord'Sith who guarded him. She had never such beautiful, powerful, women before. For a long time afterwards Marrah would braid her flame-red hair in an approximation of the Mord'Sith's favoured style.

When she grew up, Marrah got a job as a clerk at the records office of the town. It was important, if sometimes dull work, filing and copying scrolls. One day her life was again impacted by the arrival of Lord Rahl. Everyone lined the streets to see the newest Lord Rahl, Richard. But it wasn't the handsome Seeker who caught her eye this time, nor the Mother Confessor, resplendent in her white robes. The wizard, who stood head and shoulders above any of the men in the town, was impossible to miss, but it was the woman leading the party, alert for trouble, that took Marrah's breath away.

Unlike her sisters, this Mord'Sith wore her hair loose, the blonde locks barely reaching her shoulders. Also unlike other Mord'Sith, she didn't wear the leather collar-piece over the rest of her uniform and her ample cleavage was on display. The sight made Marrah's breath catch in her throat.

Marrah had never gotten over her girlish crush on Lord Rahl, had never found any man in the town who could live up to her expectations. Now Marrah had a new crush. Richard called her "Cara" and Marrah thought it was the most beautiful name in the whole world.

To Cara, this was just another dreary town that had to be passed through on their way to more pressing concerns, but to Marrah it was one of the most important in her life. Marrah realised she'd never find a man who could compete with Lord Rahl, but she knew of a few women who, with a bit of imagination and some leather, could fulfil her fantasies of a Mord'Sith.

She's still not found the exact right woman, but Marrah is certain it will happen one day.

For the 'write a day planner' I featured Marrah in her day job:

Character Name: Marrah Latham
Short Description if using Original Character: A slender, flame-haired, young woman who works as a clerk at the town's records office. She once saw Cara passing through the town and fell a bit in love her; while she wears practical, sensible clothing during her daily life, Marrah secretly has some leather garments at home.
Schedule: ,
0800 My turn to open up the office
0830 File scrolls returned to the front desk
0930 Make copies of the minutes of the town meeting
1300 Lunch with Cerys
1400 Answer correspondences from surrounding towns
Word Count: 218
Today I (Story of what the character did today):
It was my turn to open up the office today. The usual suspects were there waiting – Dalben must have read every scroll in here twice but he says he enjoys the atmosphere. Trent just likes to sit by the fire and gossip. It's nice to have the company though, especially when I'm doing the boring work of refilling all the scrolls and books people have been using.
Made three copies of the minutes of the town meeting – not sure we need so many but I'm not in charge. Sick of reading about the regulations regarding goat herding now.
Had lunch with Cerys; she's in love with the boy come to help pick grapes over at the Edwin homestead. It won't last of course, it never does, but she might have some fun along the way.
Spent the afternoon answering the letters sent to the office. Some were requests for information I had to look up, some were thank-you letters for previous services rendered, and one was a request for a copy of a scroll. It was a valuable one so I couldn't send it out – marked it for copying tomorrow.
As I opened up, I got to finish earlier. Had a hot bath and thought I'd write up my diary while I'm now sitting here watching the sunset.

Most recently, I featured her in a story as part of a triple challenge; I had to submit a LotS themed image; pic under the cut and titled Letter Opener of Truth :D The next part of the challenge was to include the photographed item in a short fic. Again, Marrah came out to play - and with her new girlfriend :D

Larissa was waiting when Marrah exited the building, locking it securely behind her.

"Hey," Marrah said, startled.

Larissa, leaning against the rough stonework, smiled languidly. "I have a surprise."

She stood and took Marrah's hand. "Let's go."

"Go where?"

Larissa led Marrah out into the fields. Under the large chestnut tree was a blanket with a basket of food on it.

"A picnic?" Marrah laughed in delight. She and Larissa had been dating tentatively for several weeks now. Larissa didn't mock Marrah's obsession with the Mord'Sith – in fact, she braided Marrah's hair for her when they were in private, and told Marrah how much she loved her in leather.

Larissa was, Marrah thought, the closest she'd ever get to a Mord'Sith lover and survive it. Larissa had an easy confidence, a relaxed awareness that belied her fighting abilities.

The two women ate and talk, laughing often. The sun begin to dip and Marrah pulled her cloak tighter around her.

"One more thing before we clear this away," Larissa said, gesturing to the picnic. She reached over and took Marrah's hand, rubbing gently at her knuckles. "All these little cuts you get."

Working with scrolls and books all day meant paper cuts were a hazard of the job.

"I don't mind them."

Larissa brought Marrah's hand to her lips, kissing at her thumb. "This one, though, this one's deep. The one you got opening that package from Aydindil."

She released Marrah's hand and reached deep into the basket, handing Marrah a cloth wrapped object that was two hand spans in length, heavy, but thin.

Marrah opened the cloth. Inside was a tiny sword.

"It's a replica of the Sword of Truth," Larissa said. "Made by someone who actually met the Seeker and his Mord'Sith, or so he claims."

"It's beautiful," Marrah said.

"You can use the sharp edge to slice open scrolls and packets," Larissa said. "Protect your delicate hands."

Marrah leaned over and kissed Larissa. "I love it. Thank you."

Larissa toyed with Marrah's hair. "Let's go home and braid your hair – Mistress."

They couldn’t gather up the blanket and basket quickly enough.
