I'm so sorry you had to put up with that. It's certainly common that people's efforts are dismissed if they're not immediately "good enough" or "doing it right" or are intending to make a career of something.

I'm glad you found other ways to express yourself! There's always satisfaction in making things, even if they aren't "perfect". They're yours and that makes them special in a way store brought things cannot be :)
