I made it to my goal of 150k. It's been an odd year with some difficulties but there have been some months full of creativity. The idea, the community, and the word count tracker have been very helpful. I'm signing up for next year at the same level :)
A few thoughts I wrote out for the "What you have learned from GYWO" post:
I write more than I think I do. Although, even with the wordcount tracker I still miscount sometimes! I'm going to try and do even better at keeping note of my writing now it's become a habit to enter totals into the spreadsheet every day I write.
I do indeed have "good" and "bad" months with regards to output, but they are not necessarily the ones I would have said they were. Being thousands of words behind at one point while now being less than 1k away from my target has proven I am capable of volume when I try.
All those ten words here and one hundred words there do add up. Sometimes writing ten words leads to fifty or a hundred or more, so it's worth the effort.
Meta and essays count as creative writing and given how much of my wordcount has been allocated to this subset, I'm getting better at acknowledging that.
More confirmation than something new: I work better when I have specific goals and deadlines to work to. Having the goal and spreadsheet has helped me keep momentum, and having the monthly support posts to wail about how behind I am has helped too! :)
