Fascinating post - I greatly enjoy your meta. There's so much variety in real life, and it's so hard to find that variety reflected on the page/screen. For me, it's that I want to find some of those other options portrayed as normal, not just as a kink.

I also agree with lorquellyn's comment. I tend to skim sex scenes, but I don't mind them when they're appropriate for the character. PWP's don't work for me because they're usually too generic, though if it's an author who is great at characterization, I'll read them and trust it'll seep in.
