Current Project Writing Meme - part four (Kat)
Two more questions
12. Introduce us to the environment this story takes place in
I already covered this here
13. Introduce us to another main character
Honor Elyson, Duke of Valstone. Recently named vice-regent but previously Queen's Advisor. His eldest brother Henri died when his sister Holly was almost two years old; Honor was born less than 2 years later and has spent his life in the shadow of his brother, not least because his mother, Elyse, still grieving for Henri, took her own life when Honor was eight. Her wish was that Honor should, unlike his father and brother who became soldiers, become a priest. His sister is a priestess, as is his namesake, his aunt Honoria.
Honor's father, Markel, was Kat's bodyguard and this is how Honor first met the future queen. He had no real interest in joining the military beyond a midl desire for rebellion, but nor, despite his unwavering devotion to the Lady, the goddess his family worships, did he desire to join the clergy. Instead, Honor found his desires lay in being in service to Kat.
He's the sensible one of the group, laying down the law and paying attention to detail. He needs alone time that he doesn't always get, surrounded by extroverts like Kat and Cal. He considers them his family. He is romantically attracted to Kat, but he puts her destiny first, knowing marriage would make him High King; he adores her no less for them not acting on their mutual attraction. Having seen how she treats sexual partners – largely as disposable- his caution is wise. His morals and faith mean sex is not to be undertaken lightly.
Intelligent and devoted, Honor can also be dangerous and unforgiving. The Tour is putting him under a lot of stress, with the constant diplomatic incidents and a lack of solitude, and the addition of MacBride, who only adds to his distrust and tension by telling Honor he ought to relax more.
