Current Project Writing Meme - part one (Kat)

1. What's the project's name? How did you pick it?
I've started calling it (The) High Queen since that's a major focus of the story, Kat's birthright to be High Queen and fight to be recognised as such. I usually refer to it as Kat-verse and tag it as c: kat though.

2. Summary
From the index page
Gloriana Katerina, keen to prove her worthiness as the first High Queen in living memory, goes on the traditional Grand Tour with some of her closest friends and allies.

Fighting a curse, an ill prophecy, disturbing dreams, the disdain of those who think a woman unworthy to rule, and her own flaws, Kat travels the world around her and finds it is both worse than, and better than, her rather sheltered existence back home.

3. Background
I'm not sure how this differs from the summary so I'm just give a bit more detail. The project started from a writerverse prompt and a couple of names from the Seventh Sanctum generator, along with an idea I had about a woman who could lay a curse upon those who touched her without permission.
From there it grew and adapted and instead of Kat fighting against her destiny, she's fighting for it, to be recognised as the rightful ruler. The Grand Tour she's taking is meant to help in that respect.
The story involves a lot of flashbacks to before the Grand Tour and to Kat's childhood, showing the characters and their relationships and their impact on current events.

4. Is this story in a series? Tell us about its sequels and prequels
I actually have three separate novels in mind but I can barely write this one!

5. Inspiration
Kat has, unconsciously, taken on a lot of Queen Elizabeth the First's history/qualities – I want to write up a post about that at some point. Fantasy novels in general have shaped the world. Other fictional characters have influenced some traits in my characters. A desire to have a (heterosexual) female protagonist who is committed to remaining unwed and childfree, along with queer characters and exploring issues of sexuality and gender. I could write a post on other characters and the inspirations behind them and maybe I will at some point.
