Thanks for commenting :) It's definitely rarer to have anything but the inevitable woman chooses 'good' guy outside of historical romance where not only (as you point out) does the good guy turn out to be villain but the bad guy isn't so bad after all :) Which might be why I prefer historical romance to other kinds!

Tropes aren't bad in and of themselves as long as we recognize and analyse them (and can then subvert them) There was a March month of meta at a DW comm last year, where I got some of the links I just rec'd, so I may write up a meta about the love triangle and its implications if it's running again this year - a fest would give me a reason to follow through with it :)
