I think it's my faulty impression/memory of the scene at work there. When I saw the look Cara gave Dahlia I was expecting Cara to betray Darken just as he was about to betray the Sisters of the Dark (magic is unpredictable as you suggest here). But I was wrong of course! So when I see it again, I'll probably interpret it differently. And I'm intrigued and excited by the idea of a threesome partnership :D
