That's a good point, that Confessors often seem to die young, possibly before infertility could be confirmed.

I think the show does just assume that all Confessors fit the mould of obedient fertile broodmares and it never occurs to that there might be women who can not or will not play by the rules. The male Confessor issue is the only aspect discussed - perhaps males are not so easily made compliant? It's something to think abut.
