Poem for writerverse

Title: Bit players
Fandom: original
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 125
Prompt: For the [livejournal.com profile] writerverse prompts All the world's a stage/Camouflage/In the shadows/Love triangle
Summary: poem that suggests while all the world is a stage, only the few are in the spotlight or can change their assigned lines
Warnings: angsty and pessimistic world view.

Maybe one day I'll write a poem that isn't bitter or angsty.

Bit players

All the world's a stage
Yet the spotlight falls only on the few
The heroes and the villains
While the most heroic are often overlooked
And the most villainous work their schemes behind the scenes
Pulling the strings
Changing the script
Altering the scenery
Camouflaged in good intentions
While their true motive remain lurking in the shadows

And what audience there is
Amongst the players
(For there are plenty who are merely extras
There to bear witness to great events
But not to participate in them)
Sometimes grows uneasy
And speaks of revolution
Of rewriting the assigned roles and tired rhetoric
But they can easily be distracted with
A love triangle or a juicy scandal

Bit players must never be allowed
To take centre stage

WOW!! This really spoke to me - it is so true that the most villainous are the quiet secretive people who never call attention to themselves, while they pull the strings behind the scenes; and so true that instead of uniting and rebelling, most ordinary people are content to sit home and watch or read the latest juicy bit of gossip about their favorite celebrity. We've been lulled into complacency while the world is being quietly taken over by those who care nothing for the disadvantaged, or for Mother Earth herself, yet it's our own fault to a large extent.

Also so true that the few rays of light are the quiet heros who never hog the spotlight.

Sorry - I could go off on a rant about this, because your poem is a perfect picture of what I see going on over here in the States - especially during the political circus going on right now.

Wonderfully written, very depressing, and, sadly, so very true.
