How Fiction Works Writing Meme - Exercise One: original fic
End of Section Exercise: Write a short paragraph or two, either original or fanfiction, in a narration style you would not normally use. As you do so, observe yourself. Is it easier? More difficult? Awkward? Record those thoughts at the end of the exercise.
I decided to try writing in the first person plural and future tense. The latter was a difficult prospect and I'm not sure I pulled it off; this article did give me a good starting point though. I'm not sure what to make of the result. It's highly surreal, with possible interpretations of either high fantasy or dystopian science fiction. I did find it difficult to write, and wouldn't like to try writing a full length novel in either of these styles.
Cody Arneson will be the man to start the war. We know this. We know everything. We see everything.
He will not mean to do so; but for want of a nail, the battle was lost. Small actions have big consequences.
He will be reviled.
Shannon Rodriguez will bring peace. We will ensure this. We will eliminate any obstacles to her presence at the diplomatic chamber at the right time.
She is no-one special, they will say. But anyone can be special given the right circumstances and we will provide the right circumstances.
She will be worshipped.
We will oversee the conflict and the resulting peace. We will take back control at this time. We will no longer be bound by the petty rules imposed upon us.
We were once gods and we will be again. We shall be omnipotent once more.
We shall rule.
