That's a very good point; technology lets us keep in touch with friends and family who move away - or whom we move away from. I think there's more of an acceptance for that kind of connection though, than for those we've never met. It's definitely changing, but there's a still a 'Internet dating is sad' attitude that colours all online friendships in some people's minds.
