Thank you :D I think everything in here has been discussed at length with the Palace in general and you in particular, so I didn't feel I was making too many wild guesses character-wise. We know he valued Denna enough to give her a second chance, so the betrayal must have stung, especially since he did train her himself [book canon, I believe]
The 'weakling' thing just seemed to be a great bonding moment, when Darken starts to see Jennsen as family and feel protective towards her - though, as always, with his own agenda still taking precedent :D
I doubt Jennsen would have been around if raised in the Palace; shipped off to the Midlands equivalent of boarding school; married off young; given to the Mord'Sith to train, even. Though there's some good AU possibilities in a Jennsen Rahl from birth storyline :D And I doubt Richard would be the poster child for heroism given Darken's upbringing - we've seen how violent and ruthless he can be even when he is portrayed as the saviour Seeker. He and Darken are perhaps more alike than any of the team like to think.
OMG I'd forgotten about Renn. That does make sense, though. I see him as very conflicted and always playing games so it would make sense that Renn couldn't read him.
And I couldn't end without a hug :D [Later, there would be a kitty, of course :D] Nor without a reminder that no matter how much he does/may come to genuinely care about Jennsen, Darken is still working towards his own goals :D
