Adopting a cat is a big responsibility, and every person who wants to adopt one should be aware of that. Don't let the rumors fool you. Cats are not nearly as low maintenance as some people think they are. You have to clean up after your cat, you have to give your cat attention and have playtime with it for it to not get aggressive, you have be there for your cat. And you cannot simply drop your cat off on your roommates when you don't feel like taking care of it anymore. 

And if you happen to be going on vacation, you cannot simply expect your roommates to take care of your cat. It is your responsibility to find a cat-sitter who is actually willing to do the job. But we suppose that some people don't understand that, and so, they do things like what you are going to read about today. They throw tantrums and act like the world owes them something.

Breakups often devolve into petty accounting, but nothing warps a ledger faster than the threat of pet theft.

 In one spectacular case, an ex decided that two rescue cats made perfect bargaining chips, discovering too late that feline leverage can claw a bank account to pieces.  

Anybody who has ever owned a special-needs cat knows how big of a responsibility it is. These cats need extra from you. That's true and has always been true. So that is something that has to go into consideration when you adopt a special-needs cat. At first glance, it looks like the man in this story did realize this - the weight of the responsibility of having a cat like this. It seems that he looked for a cat-sitter who specializes in cats who need this little bit extra. But then things take a turn. A weird turn. 

This man, who is clearly well-off financially, seems to have had a problem with paying the $20 that this highly qualified cat sitter was asking for, a price that any cat owner, let alone a special-needs cat owner, should be willing to pay for something like this. He put off paying until the last second, and when the cat sitter put her foot down, he did the most unexpected thing of all.

Now yes, this story is about a scared kitten who found itself in genuinely the last place a cat should be, like swimming on a lake would be more reasonable than this. But what is most impressive about this story is the manpower, time and resources that city officials authorized to use in order to save this defenceless kitten. We will not spoil this story for you with all the details, but we will say that with the myriad of stories out there where a heroic hooman stepped in to save the day, the most the hooman ever had, was a helping hand and a donated blanket.

Any expenses came out of their own pocket, and no one really wanted to help them on their hero's journey. But in the case of this kitten, all those cheap thoughts seem to have flown out of the window and landed far, far away, as little to no expense was spared to save this sweet kitten.

Meow, meow hoomans the work week is back and for this season of the show we have soaring temperatures that make walking to your car feel like a trans-Saharan ultra marathon, broken AC systems casually dripping water on unsuspecting victims and of course our summer favorite, that one kid who was thrown out of camp for bad behavior who has now had to come to the office to cause havoc there rather than amongst other children.

Yes, it is a rubbish season, but at least it is only made up of five episodes and at this point we are part way through episode 1. This is why it's impawtant to get your cats microchipped, fam. You never know when someone might try to "rescue" your cat and never give them back!

We understand wanting to help every cat in need, we do, but the word "need" is purrfectly crucial here. If the cat is loved, has a home, and is well-fed, that cat doesn't need your help - it's just adventurous. There are plenty of cats that do need your help in shelters or hiding behind dumpsters are your local movie theater (that's where we found our furst cat).

A worried pawrent got a call from a vet saying that someone found their cat (thanks to the microchip), but was trying to adopt them despite knowing they had an owner. The pawrent tried to convince them to give their cat back, which then prompted tears on the other end. The kicker? She still wouldn't give the feline back. Scroll down to read the full story below!

Happy Meownday, feline fam. We're writing about this post below to share some impawtant life lessons with you, but first, let's give you a little summary of what to expect. 

A feline foster mom decided to look after her friends' cat for an indefinite amount of time. Weeks turned into months, and months turned into a year. She, of course, became purrfectly bonded with the cute kitty. But then, when they came back, they expected her to return the cat to them, even though she already felt like the cat was hers. 

This is the first life lesson that we hope to impart to you: cat ownership is not based on emeowtions. Just because she cared for the cat, and even paid for expenses, the cat had a microchip with her friends' names on it, and they have documentation of ownership. This is all that matters. If they have a microchip, they legally belong to someone else… even if you rescued them off the street.
