New Year's Eve

Thinking ahead to next year. I've signed up to GYWO of course.
The Fannish 50 is running again but I didn't go great with it previously. I might pick it up again on my terms.

smallhobbit has come up with 26 photos for the year which a lovely way to record the year and post regularly and in this post has an impressive list of courses completed. I've checked out the free courses and identified a couple of Open University ones that looked interesting. My new job has a subscription to National College and are keen for me to do some sort of Continuing Professional Development next year, so at some point I guess I'm be learning something in a structured way :)

I would like to finish the 100 prompts LiveJournal table, started a lifetime ago. And make in-roads on the 100 fandoms. I might ask for help with encouragement/brainstorming for the LJ table. And of course more crafting. Nephew loved the sheep bauble I made for his grandparents that he wants one for his March birthday so that's on the list.

December update/ Snowflake Challenge promo

Hope everyone is enjoying "Twixmas" that time between the frantic lead up to Christmas and the New Year's return to work/school. I've done some in store and online sale shopping/browsing and some tidying/sorting. Taken down some decorations so it's all at once. Leaving the lights until last.
In lieu of writing posts I just seem to be dumping All the Thoughts about things like Beyond Paradise Christmas special and Lord of the Rings nostalgia in other people's posts. My own posts are sporadic but I do try and read my circle on a semi regular basis, and I'm committed to seasons_of_fandom which keeps me active in making icons, writing drabbles, playing games, and commenting on other user's works.

I received a truly lovely Yuletide gift fic in the Rivals fandom ♥ Look, I'm Emotionally Bankrupt First Bas had the brilliant idea of dressing them all up like the four musketeers for a fancy dress fundraiser; now he won't stop interfering in whatever's between Rupert and Taggie.
If this keeps up, Rupert swears someone's going to get run through with a dull sword.
My recipient seemed to enjoy the fic I gifted them. though another fic given as a treat (so same parameters) got more comments. Even when I write the explicit fic it's not quite good enough sigh

"The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.

2) Italicize those you intend to read.

3) Underline the books you LOVE."

I bolded titles where I was sure I read them. I bolded numbers where I've read part of the book/book series. I did not bother to underline any. There are a couple of repeats (The Complete Works of Shakespeare but also Hamlet for example) and some odd omissions I think.

Alphabet Fic Meme

Everyone seems to be doing this meme so why not!
Go to your AO3 page and choose "sort by title", then pick one fic per letter of the alphabet (A and The don't count as first words) and make a list. Post how many letters out of 26 you managed. Bonus points if you have a fic for every letter of the alphabet. Kidding, there are no bonus points, just bragging rights :)

I managed 24, let down by X and Z. kitarella_imagines has got a post where you can reply when you complete, because many of us are missing the "difficult letters" Q X Y Z but now feel inspired to try and title fics so we can have a whole alphabet :)

Gosh, some letters I had lots of other options, some none. Pages of A's and M's for example.
Also two fics named "At Your Side", one named "Adjustment" and another "Adjustments", two named "Lies", two named "Punishment"!
Lots of nostalgia here for fics I had forgotten I had written, fandoms long gone. I've tried to pick a variety of fandoms and genres!

I'm able to read my inbox and I've posted to a community and my journal so fa. But I'm having trouble replying to messages and comments. A Dreamwidth glitch? Hopefully this will be resolved soon!
update: while slow things do seem to be going through eventually. Plus I can't log into https://ellipsus.com/ with it returning an internal server error.

On the back of more censorship like the disastrous Online Safety Act, the mass data breeches (from the Afghan data leak to the Tea app scandal) and people being arrested and even jailed for tweets, and after 5 years of creping surveillance and control, next is the push is for Digital ID in the UK.
No, this is not like your passport number. Yes, there are horrific implications for data breeches and ID theft. Yes, there are horrific implications for privacy, anonymity and freedoms. Call it conspiracy theory but ask yourself this: do you trust this and every subsequent government to access and control every detail of your life and data?

I'm not going to go into detail about the threats but I am going to share this from the Together Declaration (

Bulls in the City - Birmingham art trail

This year we've got the "Bulls in the City" in Birmingham. It's raising awareness and selling themed souvenirs (everything from pencils and pin badges to tote bags and t-shirts) to support Birmingham Hospice. After the events the sculptures will be auctioned off too.
